Hi all - nice to have finally found you again, a reformat meant I lost all my bookmarks and I only just got back ;)
My doc put me on Diamicron MR about 4 weeks ago after my last hb1a? test had seen my level rise from 6.4 to 6.7 unmedicated - the test before was just after diagnosis and was 6.9. She had taken me off metformin (which I hadn't tolerated well anyway - everything tasted like garbage :() so she could start me on a blood pressure medication that would have interacted with the metformin.
My BGL stays between 6.4 and 9.3 with the occasional higher level (11.2 is the max I've ever gone and that was Easter, yup I ate some chocolate LOL), so I believe I'm doing OK in the diet department - dietitian is happy with my diet too - but in the 4 weeks I've been taking the Diamicron I've gained 10 kilo's! I'm only taking 30mg daily but can't see any reason for that kind of weight gain other than these pills - I've done some internet research and found that weight gain can be a side effect ... which I was totally thrilled about of course NOT!
I'm horrified at that weight gain, I've worked SO HARD and lost 25 kilo's and to gain almost half of it back again without eating any of the things I know would put it back just makes me want to cry :(
Is a hb1a of 6.7 so bad that I need to take these pills??? I'd ask my doctor but she's on holiday - but I won't wait another 2 weeks for an answer or I'll weigh another 20 kg by the time she gets back (I won't be taking them again till I see her) :(
