I have had diabetes now for a year and a half. i was on metformen and was doing ok but I was having side affects from it so my dr. switched me to glipizide, and since then i have been having trouble keeping my numbers down.
Like yesterday before dinner I was 97 and 2 hours later I was 136, but when i woke up this morning it was 166. I didn't eat anything after dinner. I keep my meals at 45g of carbs or under. what can I be doing wrong?

Have you changed your diet? Do you exercise less? How long have you switched to Glipizide?
I would write down those results (along with a quick food journal to support results) and go back to see the doc. Show the doc your numbers.
I always ask myself what I've been doing wrong... I gather the moon might have something to do with my numbers once in a while. Or a gust of wind. It's that frustrating!

You say you're below 45g of carbs per meal, what KIND of carbs? Could it be something very spikey like white breads or potatoes or oatmeal?
Just a thought, what did you eat with that meal?
I find, personally, that I can't eat 45g of carbs a meal -- I try to stick closer to 30g a meal, but I realize that some folks can easily handle more than that. I don't' exercise much, so perhaps that's my issue.

Thank you, I wasn't thinking about what kind of carbs I am just counting carbs. I will have to rethink and adjust the carbs to the right ones.

are you doing much exercise? I have found that if I exercise my numbers are really good.
Also you might want to check out old threads about 'dawn phenomenon' Many of us find that our numbers are high in the morning and may continue to rise until we eat. Exercise is hugely important too. You will notice a significant drop in your bg level with even a fifteen minute walk.
