Hi everyone I just want to see if anybody can donate any supplies like lancets, test strips, etc. I dont have insurance right now and it is hard to buy my supplies like test strips, and lancets.

look on craigslist as well..sometimes there are ppl that no longer need them, have a different meter than before, or have had a family member pass away and have a surplus of supplies....you might want to be specific about what kind of monitoring device you are using..

Sorry I can't help with test strips, but did you know that you can use the lancets over and over again? I change maybe once every two weeks and I know others change alot less often.

Yes! Years of testing 10+ times a day, on one lancet for months at a time, and not a problem to show for it. Why? Just laziness really.

I think they do hurt a bit more after the first few days, but then it usually seems the same for about... 6 months :)

I have also heard of people getting strips off ebay at a good price. I have no idea if there are counterfeit problems to be aware of, something worth finding out if you go that direction.

There was also a thread that has some cost discussions in there: http://www.diabetesforums.com/forum/monitoring/44309-what-type-monitor-do.html

Hi Tiera612,

A few days ago you posted and asked if someone would trade you your lancets for another very high priced diabetes care item that they didn't use anymore. I am confused as to why you have enough lancets to trade for a large item, but not enough for personal use. This makes me very wary of this post and certainly wary of donating items to someone who seems to have more than enough lancets for a trade, but not for your own use.

I don't recommend donating items to anyone. There are resources for getting items. Direct them there. It's all too likely this and any other "needy" person simply wants to make a few bucks off ebay. You have no way of verifying a person's need via messages.

Nancy, I'm glad you caught that! Thanks.

I donate insulin, strips, meters, lancets, and syringes to several charities annually and they go to help Type I Diabetics without insurance, so in a way, I've already given you supplies.
