For all those that have been craving a certain snack or are new to the world of diabetes.
You CAN eat them (eventually - in time) by being responsible and only do so in moderation.
Consider it as a reward for being good, achieving your goals, getting exercise and watching your diet.
I'm not saying it's OK to pig out on an entire box, only to be aware of/set your limits and always exercise caution - test often.
It might be easier for me to do this because I need to ration my supply, most items are not available in stores here.
My favorites:
Slim Jim sausage snacks
Lances Cheese and peanut butter crackers
Nacho Doritos
Dunkin Donuts
Snackwell Devils Food Cakes
Mallomars
Pop Tarts
Cinnamon rolls
Girl Scout Thin Mint and Lemon cookies
Pepperidge Farm Milano cookies and Goldfish Nacho crackers
Kit Kats
Hersheys chocolate
M&M's
Three Musketeers
Milky Way
100 Grand
Tootsie Rolls
Junior Mints
Strawberry Twizzlers
Jolly Rancher

Have too many food allergies regarding fruit/veggies.
The items you list I consider as food/meal, not a quick snack.
Slim Jim and crackers are low in carbs but higher in sodium, which is also bad.
A snack size piece of candy, plain donut or 3 cookies is usually my limit every now and then.
Whatever works for you - great - happy testing!

everyone is different!
i often eat salami for breakfast with black coffee! do that in France and they won't bat an eyelid. do it in Iowa and you might go to jail... :)
i often snack on a hard boiled egg.
just because a HUGE marketing machine has convinced the world that cereal is breakfast food does not mean that it is true and that everyone in the world has bought into their bullcrap...

I'm adding a new snack item to my low-carb armory. Along with the beef sticks, cheese sticks, jar of hard-cooked eggs in the fridge, I'm going to start keeping hot wings.
They won't always be "wings", they'll be whatever is on sale, but this week thighs/drumsticks are 88¢ a pound, so I'm stocking up (these are raw chicken of course, no breading involved). I deep fried about five pounds to get the skins crisp, then let them simmer in louisiana hot sauce for awhile before refrigerating. I'll go back & get several more pkgs. before the sale goes off & have them in the freezer to keep the supply coming.

I keep a frozen box of the TGIFriday's Buffalo Wings around, but I bet they would be so much better home-made.
Anyone have a recipe for a good buffalo-style sauce?

All I do is melt a few spoonfuls of butter in a few ounces of louisiana hot sauce. What I happened to have today was Crystal hot sauce (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Hot_Sauce). If you want them hotter, forget the butter. Crystal is a cayenne sauce - not terribly hot . . . shop around if you want hotter sauces.

In browsing wings recipes, I've found that the original buffalo wings were made with butter & Louisiana hot sauce, but they also added a splash of white wine vinegar. About 5:1 hot sauce:vinegar.
I like mine in a 20 - 80 mix of butter and Durkees Red Hot, sauce. I really like the extra hot Red Hot, but I am the only one who will eat them.

So how many will you eat at a sitting?
A chicken leg with some rice/noodles is a meal for me.

Well, I think each of us ate three or four tonight for supper . . . these were thigh pieces, so more meat than on wings. And it's all we ate - no noodles, no rice, nothing else. No carbs to count, so we just ate until we got full.

Wow! I really can't imagine eating most of the foods mentioned here.
I think a big part of my management and recovery has been retraining my brain-- meaning, those foods are not only not "rewards" to me any more, but they are actually yucky -- I'd be hard pressed to eat them at all!
I've trained myself over the years to really crave the fruits and veggies, and if I try to eat junk food now, nevermind blood sugar, it's just hard to stomach!
Of course, each to their own, do whatever works, but it seems to me that living in the mindset that you can't have what you really want would be rough. My choice was to simply align what I wanted with what I could actually eat, and it's worked wonders!

Oooh, I wish I could be content with a portion that small... No wonder I'm fat!

Shanny, have you ever tried the chicken wing recipe that Abra listed some time ago? INCREDIBLE! The ingredients were broth, rice vinegar (but I think she used "champagne" vinegar), & soy sauce. OMG...the meat fell off the bone, and the subtle flavor was lovely. I'm certain it would work with thighs and legs as well.
We finished the pot of wings. I must've eaten twenty of them, and the meter barely budged. And like you, we ate little with it...some jalapeno slices, I believe.
With a bit of tolerance and creativity, low carbing can be quite enjoyable. Too bad about our carb addictions, though... :o
My latest best snack is celery with Kaukauna cheese packed into it.
I also make my own Cheddar Cheese Spread. It goes quickly and friends make off with it:
Put 1.5 pounds of cubed cheddar into the food processor with a half pound of fat free cream cheese, 2 T Olive Oil, 1/2 tsp of dry mustard, fresh ground white pepper and 1/4 tsp of garlic powder. Add just enough white wine to soften as it blends together. Pack into small containers and refrigerate. Bring to room temp before serving. You can also add a T or two of tawny port instead of part of the white wine for a port wine cheddar.

Oh YES, I tried Abra's wings too, and they were great! :D :D :D I do love hot "wings"! (I'm with Joel & his salami breakfast . . . I ate a hot wing for breakfast this morning! :D) This method allows me to get the skin crispier, and the meat still falls off the bone. Just fewer steps in the cooking.

OH YES . . . all of the above!!! (only I use jalapeno slices in my quesadillas instead of sauce . . .)
And MamaGlucose? I'd be eating more fruits & veggies myself, if my meter would let me, but I ate an apple last night before bed & even with peanut butter added to slow down the absorption, I was 133 this morning. Not acceptable.
It isn't that I can't HAVE an apple or an English muffin for breakfast, it's that I choose not to because it will elevate my glucose for the rest of the day. My little hot wing didn't even BUDGE my meter.
JayDee's foods seem to work for him, but they wouldn't work for me either. That being said, hot wings (made without breading) and hard-cooked eggs hardly qualify as junk food.

Josselyn, you're not fat.
Just height challenged with regard to your actual weight.
It's all in how you look at it.
Enjoy life - it beats the alternative!
As for my favorite snack list, I consider them small treats (occasionally).
It's like that comfy feeling of being at home again - aaaaaahhhhh!

My favorite snacks are:
Fresh coconut right out of the shell (doesn't elevate my BS), Emerald Cocoa Roast Almonds (for those chocolate cravings)
Homemade deer jerky (good stuff!)
