OneTouch Vita

I see that in the UK Lifescan has a new meter called the OneTouch Vita:

It has similar features to the Ultra2, but looks quite different. It also takes different strips although they do not say why, whether they require coding or less blood for instance. The strips actually look a bit like the new ones we are starting to see here.
I wonder what Lifescan are up to and if we are going to see any new products here?

Why would T1 and T2 diabetics need different meters? Unless there are features that allow recording differents meds that are used by T2's and not T1's, it looks like a marketing gimmick to me.

I downloaded the manual and eccentially it seems to be an Ultra2 with some features removed:
No Backlight.
Preset coding, (probably 25).
Reduced temp range 10-44C instead of 6-44C, (probably because of the preset coding).
Less memory, 350 instead of 500 tests.
Manual meal flags, instead of automatic.
No comments entry available.

Could this be a cost reduced meter for the UK. National Health Service? (who pay for everything over there), perhaps some of our UK friends might comment. . .

I like the way it looks though.
