I currently am being treated via a PICC line IV infusion for a chronic ear infection. The infection, so far anyway, has been resistant to the 1st two antibiotics the Dr. has tried. My BG numbers are so out of control in spite of a temp basal on my pump, and repeated corrections. They also are very erratic. I don't know whether it is the infection causing the BG to rise, the medicine being used, or the trauma of having the PICC line put in..........or a combination of all three things.

Has anyone else experienced a chronic infection and elevated BG, and what did you do to treat the BG?

Thank you ahead of time for your response.

I had a chronic sinus infection for about a year before I had surgery to clean them out.

My guess is that the stress of all three issues you mentioned are causing the rratic BGs.. Unforunately you just need to keep adjusting your basals.

I hope the new antibiotic will help.

Wow -- my post-H1N1 sinus infection is driving me NUTS, blood sugar wise, not to mention the discomfort of course. ... it is something of a relief to read your thread, because I am in somewhat of the same boat, BG wise.

My husband had to have a PICC for Antibiotic infusion when he had MRSA. By they time he got it, it was small potatoes compared with the rest of what he went through, and the novel antibiotics WORKED.

I truly hope yours get to work and FAST! And hopefully it'll get your BGs under control fast too.
