So... Halloween came and went and I'm quite proud of myself for only having 2 pieces (but only after making sure I was already sufficiently on the low side of normal). I have however found that Russell Stover, while making what I'd consider horrible regular chocolate candy, makes a wonderful assortment of sugar free candy. I limit myself to only a couple of pieces at a time if not just one. Their small coconut bars taste exactly like a Mounds bar to me and I can't even tell that any of it is sugar free. I had to yell at my wife for eating all of my sugar free candy rather than the horde of halloween candy my 5 year old came home with. That sugar free stuff is expensive!! Anyone have any other suggestions for sugar free candy, ice cream, desserts in general that are easily obtained at local grocers?

I've heard that Pangburn's Millionaires now come in a sugar free form. That was my favorite candy.

There is quite a variety of SF candy. In addition to the Russell Stover, you can find Almond Roca, Lifesavers, even a Whitmans Sampler. One of my faves are the minature Hershey Bars with carmel.

You can also get Reeses Peanut Butter Cups, peppermint patties, etc. The best selection seems to be at discount pharms, like Rite-Aid or Walgreens.

If you want something higher end, Guy Lian makes Belgian chocolate in SF, and it's not bad. Much better IMHO is the Lindt high cacoa stuff - 70% to 85%. It's not sugar free, but still very low carb (maybe 10g for 1/3 of a bar).

Breyers makes a "carb smart" vanilla ice cream bar that's pretty good, maybe 5g each. These and the above you can find at a supermarket if you look close.

One thing to be careful of with the little chocolates, and things that have sugar alcohols (xylitol, sorbitol, etc.) is that they can be quite laxative in high quantities.

Good luck!

I keep a bag of Dove dark chocolate in my freezer (out of sight, out of mind). When I need a chocolate fix, i'll grab a couple pieces and let them slowly dissolve in my mouth. Takes care of the chocolate cravings quickly, and doesn't negatively affect my blood sugar. Same with Hershey kisses.

S/F Werther's originals are my favorite hard candy.

Check the carbs on any of the s/f varieties...some are surprisingly high. Also, they aren't kidding when they say that eating these may cause "a laxative effect." I found out the hard way that too many = trouble!:o

I enjoy the Breyer's Carb Smart fudge bars, and Blue Bunny has several s/f varieties that are quite good...again, read the labels for the carb content.
