Howdy!
When I wake up in the AM my feet have started going numb..kinda fuzzy numb. Feels like your arm does when you wake up in the middle of the night and your arm is dead. What causes this?

How are your blood sugars?

Could be diabetic neuropathy, OR could be my old pal, plantar fasciitis.

I understand some of what you're going through. I can't sit for too long without my feet going numb. I'm a movie buff, but I can't sit in those seats for 2 hours without crossing my legs, uncrossing my legs, putting up my feet, and tossing in my seat.

And to top it all off, I also have plantar fasciitis. My feet always hurt!

As far as the numbness of the arms....it happens to me only if I put my arm under my pillow to elevate my head more. Or if I tuck it under my body when sleeping.

I have serious numbness in my feet from diabetic neuropathy as well as suffering from plantar fast. My BG is under control since my dx. last Oct. I have pain in my feet that puts me on the couch in the evening and makes me wish I could take them off for a bit and put them on the shelf for a couple of hours. I am taking Lyrica for the pain, but it just puts a dent in it. I am also taking ALA in several forms that has also helped a bit. I have to now eliminate certain foods from my diet because it makes the pain even higher. I have tried several things to help with the PF but have not been successful with that. I have handled the diet change to treat my diabetes pretty well but wish DN was not one of the things that is a lasting side effect.

I have some serious neuropathy in my toes, which drives me nuts. I also feel it in my legs when I'm exercising, though it doesn't bother me as much when I'm just standing or walking around.

My big toes pretty much do a tingling like they are just waking up from being asleep all day. Makes me crazy..I tried some lotion on them that was supposed to relieve it, but it only does a little bit of relief.

Hopefully it's not too bad for you, it can be a (no pun intended) a real pain.

I used to wake up with numb hands and/or feet. I started taking B-6 and B-12. No more numbness.

Had the plantar fasciitis several years back, it was bad. I had to crawl to the bathroom inthe middle of the night, couldn't stand on my feet at all. Docs did all the orthos, steriod injections and what not, no help. What got rid of it for me was, I purchased three different styles of shoes. What I mean is the shoes fit differently and put pressure on different partsof my feet. I would rotate these shoes 2 days on, then changed shoes. Feet healed in a month of this, never had it again.

Now after having D, I have permenant numbness in the pads of my feet. Went off the ALA for several days, (ran out) and my toes started in on the game.

That's exactly how I got rid of my plantar fasciitis! New shoes! I'd gone through the pain - couldn't have jumped up immediately and run out of the house if it had been on fire. A tearing pain every time I got up from sitting or laying (lying???) down. A misery. I'd had the cortisone shots...which worked for a while. The idea of the surgery grossed me right out... So I bought athletic shoes with high arches that kept the pressure of the soreness until it finally stopped being inflamed. That was ten years ago...not a problem since.

QUESTION: Is the ALA you take effective to prevent neuropathy, or only effective on neuropathy one already has? I hope this sin't a stupid question; I know nothing about ALA. Thanks!

To be honest I am not sure. I take it to lower my BG and for the DN. The L-Arginine works well too.

Have any of you guys tried Evening Primrose oil for DN? I have been using it for 2 weeks and it seems to be working. The tingling is no where near as bad and the numbness in feet and hand is getting better too.
