Injecting at night

Was at the diabetic clinic the other day and the doctor put me back on Lantus and told me to dial the pen to 60 and inject just before bedtime,i forgot to ask him why just before bedtime? and not first thing in the morning:confused: I'd hate to go hypoglycemic while sleeping..

They recommend injecting at bedtime because it's easier to remember to take it. I inject at night, and it's true, I never forget to take it....unlike my pills that I'm always forgetting to take through out the day.

Is that why? I thought because of the timing of DP. I am clearly clueless.

I set my phone alarm for the times I need to inject so I don't forget. Sometimes I don't hear that LOL And I forget anyway, just happeded a few times though.

On paper, Lantus is meant to have a close to flat 24 hour profile. On paper, people have a pretty flat basal requirement. So, on paper, it doesn't really matter when you take your Lantus, and I suspect the reason for nightime is something like what Hammer says - convenience, consistency. I don't know how universal night time really is. Is it in the notes?

Of course the reality can be different... for some, Lantus may not last 24 hours. For some, they have basal requirement considerations that may dictate when to take the dose. Poppy, I'd suggest dawn phenomenon is not really something Lantus by itself is able to cope with anyway. But certainly making sure that your Lantus action has not dribbled out by the time of the DP, is one step to trying to make things better.
