Well it seems I have once again been challenged by my body. A few stats to start.
I am 46 6' 210 lbs in reasonable shape.
In the last 3 years I have had 2 angioplasties and now find out I am diabetic as well. I am currently on:
Atenelol, Pravostatin, Losec, Diovan, ASA and now have added glyburide and metformin.
I have been on this medication for just over a week and am suffering from major fatigue, bloating, loss of appetite and nauseau. I am cold all the time and my legs are itchy.
The fun part is I had no symptoms of diabetes before an unrelated set of tests found that my blood sugar was 19.3.
Anyways that is my quota of whining for the week.
Any support or advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

Hello Steve & welcome! :)

I've replied to your message in the T2 section. What I want to add here is don't despair. You've been recently diagnosed. It's normal to feel overwhelmed, scared, angry, lost, etc. Although having diabetes is no picnic, you can still very much enjoy life. There is no other way than forward I say! And when you're depressed, when you need support, when you need to vent (vital!), when you fall off the wagon, and when you need understanding, this forum is the place to be. Personally, I couldn't do without it. Lots of precious info, advice and good tips too! Read as much as you can on diabetes. The more you know, the better control you will have.

Take good care now,

Dewey

Hi Steve and welcome to the forums family! :) Cool site you have, by the way. Just wanted to be part of the welcoming committee...while I'm type I and do not have experience with the meds you're taking, I know that Marie and the others won't steer you wrong. Welcome and hope to "see ya around" often.

Welcome to the Board Room Steve. Whine anytime. I wonder
when the Medical Professionals are going to clue in and start asking
people simple questions such as: Do you have any of these symptoms?
And Is there a History of Diabetes in your family? Many people would say yes to one or both. It is so easy and should be manditory(sp). These questions could then be followed by a test or two. That would certainly get people dxd early and get some damage-control going. Fasinating. Hey we could mention it to them! :smartass: I'm going to anyways. Sorry, for babbling.
Also sorry that your body has been going through the wringer lately. Sure not fair. Hopefully the drug affects will soon be over for ya. Take Care. :)

Hi Steve and welcome. :)
I'm type 2, also on metformin. The effects of the medication do get better with time. (I don't know about glyburide) Hang in there and hopefully you will begin to feel better soon.

Hi Steve,

Apart from the itchy legs I've been there. The side effects will decline after a time and in my case it has taken 3 1/2 months but I am still left with the problem of rapid fatigue on exercising (which I didn't have before Metformin).

I find that if I don't eat (even just a small amount) at least every three hours, I get aching muscles just like the onset of flu.

Hang in there! Good luck.
