Ok, I probably shouldn't be doing this on my own but I thought I would try. I'm trying to figure out what my I:C ratio should be. I found something on the DiabetesMall site called the 500 Rule but I'm still sorta confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :D
You're getting a few things confused, but I am terrible at explaining anything: Deltec actually has good info on their site, so I am going to point you there:

You'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader to read the PDF files, and as long as you have that, start on the link called: Carbohydrate Counting Basics, and move onto each link from there. The "500 Hundred Rule" is explained under "Insulin-to-Carbohydrate Ratio"...

Thanks Duck. Sometimes you can be a PITA (lol, j/k) but at a time like this, you really come through. I've looked it over and will spend more time studying on it tonight. Again, thanks (I really mean it. :) ).

Actually, when I calculated my C:I ratio, my CDE had me start out at 10 to 1. What I did was kinda like testing basals...I waited until my sugars were about 140 four hours after eating and four hours after my last bolus. I ate a slice of bread and took a bolus based on the amount of carb at 10 to 1. I was a bit high four hours later, and the CDE said I should try 8:1--which worked.
It seems to me nowadays that my C:I is different at different times of the day, but I have yet to tweak that...

I think Duck has the right procedure Cin. That is exactly what I was instructed to do and it has worked for me as well. I started at 1:15, and as my honeymoon period has ended, I am down to 1:10 and holding.
As far as carb counting, I am still working on that. For foods I have had and know, I do fine. As I am still kinda new to diabetes, I am still having a little trouble with "new" foods.... but once I try it and have it a few times, it falls into my "known" category, and problems solved. Any more, most of my bad BS days are because of "new" foods.
Like I was taught by my dietitian, I measure and weigh everything until I can eyeball it and know the correct count. It is taking time, but I am learning... I am a little slow you know! ;)

What Duck and Koblenz told you was the right place to start but I will carry it a bit further. Try the 1/10 ratio first but pick one meal (let's say lunch) and figure how many carbs are in a typical sandwich and whatever else you usually have and then have that same thing every day for at least a week. Test before you eat and 3 hours after. If you are consistantly high or low after the meal then adjust your ratio accordingly. Make sure that whatever you choose for your meal is not heavy on protien, that is another story.

Yes, gettingby, 1:15 is the normal jumping off place, but then you, like all the rest of us, have to fine-tune that for your individual reactions to various types of foods and might also have to learn what the correct "extra" bolusing is proper for you.
Also, keep in mind, that your "Perfect Formula" you've spent much time working out/on has a nasty tendency to shift and change without bothering to notify you at all.

LMAO rzr and duck. You guys are soooo funny. I went on the Cozmo site and figured out by ratio. I don't know about starting with what I came up with so I'm gonna start out with 15 grams/unit and go from there.

That's where most people are started by PCP, CDE or Endo, I believe.
