Hello. My name's Linda and I'm another new one. I live in the UK and I've been insulin dependent for 15 years. I started using an insulin pump about 2months ago and although I can appreciate the benefits, I haven't got the rates right yet and ended up in hospital with a bad hypo last week. I talked to a diabetic nurse who's actually using a pump during the week, found that a positive experience and came looking on the web for other places to find things out. Here looks pretty good so thanks (in advance) for sharing. Cheers!

Hey Linda, welcome to the ''Family'' You will find a lot of great people on this board!
I am also from the Uk T1 for 8 years, and looking into getting a pump, just a problem with the cost...! Did you have to pay full out for yours, or are you covered in some way?
Sorry to hear that you had a bad hypo and ended up in hospital, and hopefully you will be able to get your rates right as soon as. The pumping section gives great info!!
Hope to 'see ya around'.. feel free to ask any questions as there will be someone im sure who will be able to answer it!!
:)

Thanks Buzz (is it ok to call you Buzz? Buzzbourne seems a bit formal) I got funding from the primary care people for the pump and they pay for everything, with the only condition being that you get it put on the house insurance. I think I got funding without a problem because the referral was made through a pre-conception clinic which gets me in on NICE criteria - I do hope I read your post right and you are in the UK or that won't make much sense to you! And if you are, I think they're forecasting sun for tomorrow, which is good.

Thanks other Linda :) I got my moaning out my system yesterday evening, which I think is why my boyfriend hs gone out tonight!, but extra friends are always good. I've often thought actually that Type 2 is probably gives you more to moan about on balance because if you're not taking insulin than you're more dependent on sticking to the diet religiously - I have serious trouble with that, but then again, I'm currently not eating anything to check the pump rates so I'm a bit food obsessed! Not that much into Desperate Housewives myself - have they got close to working out whodunnit yet?

Thats no Problem... its one of my many nicknames so I'm used to it lol.
Yup I am from the UK, and have been trying to get onto a pump for a while, When I was still at the ''kids'' clinic they said that I may get put on one if one came available (was on the top of the list) as the funding hadnt come through for more at the time. Now I've moved away from that clinic I was told that I couldnt be funded for a pump and I would have to fork out £2500 for the pump, then up to £100 a month for all the supplies....
I'm needing sun!!! had too many snow/hail blizzards up here to last a lifetime!

I think the funding issues are generally a bit confused, but my best suggestion would be tell them you want to have a baby :) Having said that, I've been reading pump posts from US people, and their system sounds more complicated still. Good luck with the pump ... and with the sun for that matter!

my mum didn't freak nearly as much as my boyfriend did but I told him it was a medical necessity and he calmed down. He's now planning ahead on the names Norman and Myfanwy, so I'm thinking of giving the pump back! (Apologies to anyone called norman and myfanwy who I just mortally offended)

Anyways, welcome Linda! :) Sorry to hear about your hospital incident, but I'm glad that you are doing ok now. Hopefully, you can get those rates figured out so that won't happen again anytime soon.

Hey Linda and Welcome to you. That's the thing with new gadgets/
instruments. Some people are lucky and get on them quick while others
take a bit longer. Just be patient and do your best. You and your Doc
should be able to get it right soon. Sorry to hear of your bad hypo.
Good luck and ask anything you want. :D Almost anthing........

No, Not freaking out.
It's just VERY frustrating for me (five younger sister and bazillions of female students) to believe that, in this day and age, when there are contraceptives available in every store, somebody gets "Caught" unaware, unprepared, and SURPRIZE!!! , new Mommy and Daddy, as if they didn't realize that, "That" would lead to parenthood.
Spent much time, as far back as the early 70s, helping young women prevent and deal with"Accidents."

Good Morning all. Sorry I haven't been here to welcome all the new people the way I was sooooo warmly welcomed but due to -----well you all know I'm sure, I just haven't been feeling up to par. I want to welcome all the new comers and say that --yes I think you have found the right place to be. Every one is so warm and freindly and helpful. I have learned a lot just by lurking and reading. When to the Dr. Tues. and he upped the Avantia by 2 mg so am now on 6 mg of avandia and 20 mg of glyburide. So far no change. I will give this a try for the 2 weeks he wants me to but after that I think if there is ni change I am going to ask to be ssent to a specialist again and not the one I went to last as he will not listen to a word a person says.
Hope you all have a great day and low blood sugars.
DodeHappy St. Patricks Day everyone

Evening again - thanks for all the welcome messages - they, and the fact that I've not been an in-patient this week, have made me less desperate about the diabetes :) I haven't been so lucky with the boyfriend :) have a good week!
