Hello All
I have Type II Diabetes which I found out I had about a year and a half ago. My GP started me out on 2000mg of AvantaMet twice a day and Gluconorm 3 times a day before each meal. My sugars seem to stay pretty good while taking the pills. Then out of the blue the sugars shot through the roof and peaked at 25 on a regular basis.
The GP then decided to put me on NPH Insulin at 16 unit per day. 10 units at 10:00pm and 6 units at 7:00am and dropped the pills to 500mg twice a day. Again things seem to normal out for awhile, then through the roof again peaking at 26 and averaging 15.
The GP's aproach now is 500mg of Metformin twice daily, 30 units of Insulin at 10:00pm and 14 units of Insulin at 7:00am. I see some small results in that my levels now go between 11 and 17. I am told by the GP to increase my levels by 2 units at each dose till my levels drop to the normal range of 5 to 7. I have no problem with this if this is what is needed to work.
On another note I have a bad back which limits my exercise somewhat. The Diabete' Center says that the back pain can and will bring the levels up an unless this is not address then I could be fighting a losing battle.
The GP says he is not concerned with the back at this point but rather getting the levels down and not to worry about the back.
I also suffer from Sleep Apnea which again I am told is another factor in the high levels. I am presently using a
C-Pap machine.
I am concerned with taking high doses of Insulin along with the pills. If there are other Type II's or even Type I's here that have experience taking high doses I would love to have there input.
I posted here yesterday but was not sure if it was clear or not so am attempting another post. Thanks for all the replies from my previous post and I look forward to replies to this one.
Thanks
Chris
