Safeway has a program where they are helping to get people with diabetes to get out and do some more walking. They are selling a pedometer and you
can log your distance onto the safeway site if you like.

Just was wondering how far 10,000 steps is <smile> ??

Can we get a lot interested in participating in the 10,000 steps/day??
It doesn't have to be a competition but one can log their distance walked on
the safeway site.

Geek boy to the rescue!

How long is one of your strides?

Go out to some sand or soft dirt, and walk at the pace you would normally walk at. Measure from the center of one footprint to the center of the next (don't use the first few or last few steps).

Take that distance, and multiply by 10,000. Now divide the distance of a mile in feet (a mile is 5280) into your result.

Example:
So if an average pace is say 3 feet (I have no idea what an average really is):

3 feet x 10000 steps = 30000 feet
30000 / 5280 = 5.68 miles
