Whats the best method?
One lantus shot at night?
One lantus shot in the morning?
One lantus shot in the morning with an NPH shot at night?
Splitting of Lantus shots (morning/night) - which isn't working too great for me... I find it is such a fine line to walk between high sugars and slight lows that cause ur liver to start getting sugar happy, and sending you into a high. Arrrrr!!! can this battle be won??
I've tried splitting up the lantus does 10-12 units at night, and 5-6 units in the morning.
Perhaps I should try an NPH shot instead? But what I found in the past with NPH (maybe 2 years ago) is that I have to wake up at 3am so that its timing curbs my DP. Anyone else have this problem? I hate having to wake up for that... wish I could take it when I go to bed. I might have to give this another try though, since my body seems to have changed so much in how it reacts to insulin.

We need some history...Post your shot routine, what kind of insulin and what time you took the shot. Also post your blood sugar readings. We need to see a pattern to make any kind of reasonable analysis.

I take Lantus 2x/day. I also take a few units of NPH before bed, between 10-11 p.m.
Can you eat something before you go to bed to cover the peak? Something with the protein.
Maybe taking the N earlier so you're awake for the peak, so you can eat and then go to bed?
Just some ideas,

Well, I think it is an individualized thing. You have to find what works for you... hopefully, with the help of your doctor.
I found splitting the Lantus up did help me tremendously when I was on MDI. I'm not sure about how NPH would work with Lantus, but I'm sure others here can fill you on on that. ;) Talk with your doctor about your blood sugars and see what he or she suggests.
Good luck :)

1.Try eating something with some fats and protein before bed
2. You could try the Lantus in the morning and thus the low should hit while you're normally awake. At least that would be my HO.

Were you the one who was trying the untethered regimin? How was that working for you?

Hey Funnygirl,
I was on the "Untethered Regimen" for while (I'm not currently). It worked ok, but I felt like I was taking more insulin than I really needed...which I think did hinder my weight loss efforts. At the same time, it was nice knowing that I had that Lantus working as a backup...I felt more secure. It was very unlikely for me to go into DKA than if I relied on the pump alone.
I think it's an option that should be considered...especially for those frustrated with having problems with insulin delivery problems from pumps. ;)

Okay, it's probably you I was thinking of. So you're just on the pump now?

I think I am the only one in the forums who has used the "Untethered Approach", at least that I know of (correct me if I am wrong). I decided to go back to the pump late January/February and , all in all, things have been ok. Actually, I'm still waiting to hear my latest A1c results...which I am a bit antsy about. :o Let's just say that my control could be better. Oh well, I'm working on it and doing the best I can...I guess that's all you can do. ;)
