So, as most of yall know, Adam got on the pump this week. Which means we have to be careful with what we prepare for dinner so that he can count his carbs just right. Well, good ol' Diana prepared the WORST meal last night for a beginner. I made cole slaw with spareribs (drenched in BBQ sauce). But wait, not only did I fail to measure out how much dressing I put in the slaw and how much BBQ sauce I put on the ribs, I also got some pretty fatty ribs by accident. Let me tell you, I felt TERRIBLE last night. It was even worse when Adam said maybe he should eat a sandwich. I wanted to throw it all away and make something better. I felt like the worst, most inconsiderate girlfriend. Needless to say, Adam's sugars were a little high overnight and this morning. I guess it's a lesson to learn from. I have to be more careful.

Hang In There. We All Make Mistakes And Learn By Them. With
Being New On The Pump He Will Learn How To Bolus Extra For The
Times We Don't Always Have A Low Carb Meal Fixed. My Husband Has
Been On The Pump For 3 Years And Right Now I Seem To Be Having
Trouble Understanding How Fat Content Messes With B/s Readings.
The Hardest Thing To Understand Is That No Matter How Hard
We Try - Sometimes The B/s Readings Have A Mind Of Their Own. The
Pump Is Wonderful Just Remember It Is Not A Cure. Once We All Under Stand That Just Because They Have A Pump, Most People Will
Have Better Control But Based On What I Have Seen That Does
Not Mean That Every Time You Check Your Blood You Will Not Always Have A 90-110 Reading. At Least My Husband Does Not.
One Thing To Remember Is That My Husband Would Probably Give His Wife Up Before Giving Up His Pump. All Will Work Out In Time.

LOL. My wife offered to make me lunch to take to work a couple years ago so I could save a few bucks every day. She makes good meals, so I agreed.

I grab the lunch pail she left in the fridge for me, get to work, put it in the fridge...Lunchtime comes so I go get it.

1 Ham sandwich, LTM
1 tupperware thingy potato salad
1 tupperware thingy apple sauce
1 bag of chips (sandwich bag)
1 bag of bite size cookies

I was literally cussing...She has NEVER seen me eat like that, what the **** would make her think I'd eat all that carb for lunch? But I couldn't exactly get mad at her, she did go out of her way to make the lunch for me (and she even made the potato salad special for me). So here I am feeling like a jerkl for being mad. I did however get away with accusing her of trying to cash in on the life insurance policy early. :D

It happens Cielo. Your developer-hunny will be fine.

I know, I just want to be supportive at this time since he hasn't even been on the pump for a week. It was an accident and he ate what I made and it all worked out. We'll both get better. Ah well...that slaw sho did taste good tho!! :stupid:

Duh Duck. She knew you couldn't eat those. She put them in there so you would have good stuff for trading with the other kids at lunch time! :D

Hey, lighten up on yourself... you did a nice thing and made the special dinner. It's not like you intended any ill feelings... slip ups happen.

You can screw up and make me a big ol' plate of ribs ANYTIME! Besides, sounded like good practice for "restaurant style carb guessin". I know we all could use more practice in that area... or is it just me that does?

Well, if you get the worst girlfriend award over that, then I have most definatly earned the worst mom award for finding it much, much easier to take my child out to dinner than to try and figure out how to cook at home. :(

Hey,

Don't beat yourself up... ;) . There's no reason to. You were nice enough to make dinner in the first place, and Adam's a big boy, he has to own up to some responsibility for higher numbers...no one made him eat it. He could have opted not to. I understand you care deeply about this person, and I admire that, but it really isn't your fault. Besides, one meal that has him ending up with elevated blood sugar, won't kill him. He'll be ok :)

Hang in there :)

Don't beat yourself up over it. We all make mistakes (unless you are Duck or Koblenz, LOL). You learn from experience. I'm not a pumper but I have been diabetic for 20+ years and I still make mistakes.
Hang in there. He should be grateful that he has a wonderful girlfriend like you. :D
