Eri's mom

Hi again...
I'm so sorry if I am becoming a pain...
anyhow, Eri's had a REALLY weird day today(so, that means I have as well)...anyway...she woke up w/ a reading of 222, then it went to 77, went to 63, 178, 220 and now to 177...WITH ketones. She vomitted once and can't stay away from the bathroom...isn't crazy about eating or drinking, so I did call the endo on call, and he said if she vomits again, gets worse or has a reading of over 240, to call him(he gave me both his pager and cell phone numbers, which he said he doesn't normally do)....
Sooooo....here we sit with her, MAY have to go back in, praying we don't...she's complaining of stomach pain that goes from her right to left side...and, of course, the chest pains.
Now, this doctor, who is in practice w/ the other doc's we saw, said he WOULD like to see Eri on the pump...asked how we felt about her new regimen(I told him even Eri feels weird not bolusing w/ every meal)...and he wants it to be a goal to get her on that pump asap. He asked why it was changed, and I said, well, b/c the endo thought Eri was , ummm, and he said, beligerent? I said yes, but, it was in the afternoon, she had just woken up, was miserable and sore and still tired and could not stand being poked every time this doctor spoke to her...no excuse really, I know Eri can be a pain...
Soooooooo....that's where we are at right now. We have to check her sugar ever 2 hours, ketones, etc....so, another long night, but my daughter, my kids, are worth it.
Anyhow, this is like a little novel...I tend to ramble, I'm really sorry about that!!!
Have a great night all :)
God bless...

Oh Robin,
Thank goodness that this endo is on your side! I'm really glad he wants to see Eri on the pump soon, as the other methods of treatment (MDI, especially the NPH) seem to be failing her left and right. I sure hope that the wheels get into motion soon, and hope Eri feels better quickly! Take care, hang in there, and please know that you and your family are in our hearts and thoughts, always. :)

Robin,
I'm glad you found an endo who is on your side with the pump issue. We'll be praying for Eri and of course you and your family as well. What you said about your daughter and your kids being worth it is so true!! I hope to be a step parent soon (hoping to get engaged soon) and there isn't anything I wouldn't do for my soon-to-be step son!! You have been great through all of this. I know it's hard but hang in there, Eri will be back to normal soon!! God bless.

Hey Robin,
You are not being a pain, so please stop worrying about that. We all can empathize with how you are feeling, b/c we all have been there at points in our life dealing with this disease . We know it's challenging and difficult.
I'm also glad to hear that your doctor is looking for ways to help Eri get a handle on her Diabetes. I certainly hope the pump will do that for her :) ... I know it's helped many people here.
It's too bad the other Endo didn't listen to you while she was in the hospital, b/c it sounds like you understood best what was going on. Yes, Eri probably was sick of being stuck during her time there, as anyone would be, and that probably did affect her whole take on her regimen she was on. I'm surprised that the doctor didn't realize that. That poor kid has changed treatments so many times, it's no wonder that they are having trouble managing her situation. It's almost like they don't give her body a chance to really adjust. I thought she was doing really well on the Lantus/Humalog plan...and it's too bad they changed that. Maybe your doctor will see that was a mistake and have her return to that, hopefully that being the last real change before trying the pump.
I truly hope Eri feels better. We all are thinking of you all and wanting the best for her.
Take care :)

Thanks so much all...
Eri only dipped to 80 and then slowly climbed up to 148, so that's not bad...she just will NOT drink or eat, so that is posing a problem...we can't check for ketones.
The doctor last night was awesome. He went through her history w/ me again once he heard of the novolin and novolog...and even I was sort of shocked when I heard how many different regimens she's been on since she was dx'd. NPH and R, then NPH and humalog, then 75/25(I KNOW I am forgetting one, but my mind is all slop right now from lack of sleep)....then back to NPH and humalog...then lantus and humalog and now this novolin and novolog. I re-iterated all the sicknesses, the gastritis and the PAD to this doc, and he totally agree'd, plus w/ adolescence, her body is going through massive changes.
Anywho...I have to call the endo's again, the doctor who changed her regimine is back on today, so more than likely, that is who I'll be dealing with.
Have a great day all, and thanks...:)

Robin I have been reading your threads, but just have not had the time to respond. I hope all gets better soon, and Eri and your entire family will be in my prayers. I hate it when the little ones are sick.

Thanks Jim :)
I talked to the CDE this morning, gave her all Eri's readings and informed her that I did speak w/ the endo on call last night. She wanted Eri to test for ketones at that minute, but she has STILL yet to have to go to the bathroom. Anyhow, we re-adjusted her bolus for this morning...I suggested 16u instead of 18u of the novolin and she agreed...and at least Eri ate some breakfast and drank some water...but it's like she can barely keep her head up. No fever, thank God.
When I mentioned the stomach pain to the CDE, she told me that that is a matter for our pediatrician(and they told me to keep in touch w/ them regarding Eri at this time....UGH!!!)...so I am just waiting for the return call from the pediatrician to see what they say. Her stomach is warm to the touch and the pain is still there, going between the right and left sides.
So, it's the waiting game...
Time to retest her sugar...
Thanks, all, and God bless...

OK...got in touch w/ the ped finally, and they are seeing her at 1:15...
Her sugar went from 70 to 53...got some oj into her and now we are just waiting for the ketone test.(I KNOW they'll want the results to that when at the docs)...
Other than that, all she does is SLEEP...
soooo....will update after the docs...praying it's not a repeat of last week(although at least her numbers are lower this week....considerably lower, although not GREAT numbers though!!!)
