Well I go to my ENDO today at 3pm. He will be going over my Lab Results and I will be speaking with him about the pump. I can't get my BS down below 200. And they go as high as 400 some days. I am now on about 120 units a day.
I have been doing alot of research on the pumps and have it down to the
Animas 1250
And the
Deltec Cozmo
Wish me luck ;)

That's great news Jim that you are getting ready to start pumping. I think you will really be glad you made that choice once you get started. Also glad to hear your son is doing well.
jeggeman Good luck ..Hope all goes well with your appointment

Well the ENDO said NO. Said he wants to wait another 3 months and get another round of blood work in. Not sure if I agree or not. I go back to my other DR next week. The one that had been treating me and sent me to the ENDO. I don't think the ENDO has done anything different that my regular DR has. The only thing different is the ENDO is a $25 co pay and my othe DR is $15.

Jim,
I do not understand how your endo thinks he can tell you "no" when it comes to the way you manage your diabetes. The choice of therapy is yours, you are the one who has to manage diabetes and choose how to live your life. He/She has their head in the sand! I'd kick 'em to the curb...
I do not mean to sound harsh there, but it is aggravating to me that a doctor would presume to tell someone NO to a potential path to better health....

I would see the other Doc, just for a 2nd. I am headed down that same road as well. After being T1 for 22 years I think I SHOULD demand a pump, lol! I have no idea what the doc will tell me. Don't get discouraged by any means, Did he say you had to be in a certain range to be able to get on the pump?

I completely agree with Dixie and Cinnabon. When it comes to Your personal care, No endo, doctor, etc. can possibly know all that you are dealing with on a daily basis (no matter how well they're trained)...After a prolonged time of higher sugars, I can't see the logic in waiting Yet another 3 months for another A1C, etc, Especially if this A1C comes back high(er). Don't be afraid to find another endo. I did that with some docs in North Central Florida, and am sure glad I did. Had I stuck with them, who knows where I'd be (or, if I'd be here) now.
I sure hope that you find a good doctor that will believe in you, and help you get what you need. :)

Well put. Every single Endo i've ever seen has pushed the PUMP to no end. I just don't understand why he would say no to it. Is a Joslin Center located anywhere near you?

Do what I did to reclaim my life: I changed endos to one who prefers that folks on MDI who can't control their bg's, switch to pumping! :) Smartest move I ever made.

Well that is bull ****. I had the same type of DR who wanted to draw out the process of getting a pump, he was estimating about a 1 1/2 years to get it. At that time I was getting ready to move so I said goodbye to that DR. When I got my new DR he didn't know squat about pumps and also told me no. I then relayed this info to Minimed and and they faxed him some stuff which in turn my DR declined to sign any. It was a back and forth argument for awhile but then he seen that I wasn't giving up.
I told my DR, see I always get my way :D

Good Luck Jim !!!!!!!!!!
Like everyone has said, this is your health and your life we are talking about, not the doctor's. I think going to another endo is the best thing you can do. I'm still searching for one and I point blank told my doctor that I wouldn't even send my dog to the one he sent me too. This endo was totally off-base so my search continues.

I sure hope all goes well for you, Jim. I say if this one doesn't work out either, don't give up hope....just keep trucking till you find one who suits you best and listens to/puts your needs first. Far too many doctors see patients as sources of money, rather than sincerely wanting to help them achieve (or wanting to understand their patient's) goals. Sure hope this endo has your needs in mind, and helps you to achieve your goals!
