As most of you know I am type 1 and I am now taking about 120 Units of Humalog 75/25 mix a day. Almost every day last week before I went to bed my BS would be in the mid 200's. I would wake up about 5 hours later and I would be Very Hypo. I did not change the way I sleep/eat or any other changes that week. I don't go hypo very often and I don't drob below 200 in my BS very often. So it was just kinda strange. I am back to my normal self (well if you can call it normal) this week.
I was just wondering if anyone else has ever had this happen?

Wow Jim, that is pretty weird.
Eri was on the 75/25 at one point, but all she ever experienced were hyper's.
I really have no input since we didn't deal w/ the 75/25 very long...
but I'm glad you're back to your normal self now!!!

Jim,
I don't have any medical explanation for it, but I can say similar situations happened to me while I was on MDI. I seemed to go through phases with the hypos at 2 a.m. I would have them every night for a week for really no explainable reason and then go 2-3 weeks and be fine at night. It drove me nuts. I don't know if it was the phase of the moon, diabetes devils :whistling , or what, I never could figure out a correlation to exercise, foods, routine, etc. I used to blame the Lantus...I liked blaming Lantus for all my BG problems ha ha. Perhaps I was justified because once I started pumping it quit happening...

YES! Had this happen a while ago. I ended up having to change my basal for a short period of time. I've always had a prob with the Somogyi Effect off and on since dx, but when it was occurring every single night, well...

You are type 1? I am wondering if insulin resistance may be a factor, especially considering the amount of insulin you are on a day and your blood sugar readings. Are you overweight? This is a good topic to bring up with you Endo, you may need meds in addition to the insulin.
Let us know how it goes :)

First of all, that pre-mixed stuff was horrible for me. If my sugars weren't low they were ridiculously high or vice versa.
I went thru a 2-3 day period about 1-1/2 years ago where I didn't inject any Humalog (kept up on the Lantus) and I didn't have a b/s over 90 the whole time. I was literally cking it every hour. Wasn't eating or doing anything differently than before. After that everything snapped back into place.

Are you overweight?
I could stand to loose about 30 pounds.
This is a good topic to bring up with you Endo
I see him today, so I am hoping for the best
you may need meds in addition to the insulin.
I am also on Metformin 1000mg x2 a day
