A sudden rise in blood glucose levels in the early morning hours. This mostly occurs in insulin-dependent diabetics.

As Cinnabon said, a sudden, early-morning rise in blood sugars. I'd go a step futher though and say it happens to all sorts of people, but as diabetics, we obviously will have complications from "dawn phenomenon"...

Something I learned here from anectdotal evidence of the other members: DP seems to be related to being a "morning person". We had something of a survey a while back, and it seemed that those who were likely to be morning people also suffered from DP...Which kinda makes sense to me, the body was gearing these people up for their morning routine, which comes naturally for them...For a person like me who could probably sleep in until 4PM and not feel guilty :whistling , I don't suffer from DP*...Other non-morning people members here seemed to not typically suffer from DP either.

Weird, huh?

*Actually, I'm going to amend that, but that's another story for another thread sometime in the future.

Thanks! Kinda sounds like what is happening to me. I am a morning person and my bs is the highest first thing in the morning before I even eat.

I never thought about that, Duck, but it does make sense. Thomas is a morning person and it seems like I have to increase his insulin every couple of months for this reason. Actually getting ready to do that now.
