After speaking with and reading a lot of the posts on this forum over the past few months, I feel the need to say something. I think it’s important b/c I’ve come to care about all of you on this forum and I value yall…you’ve all helped me out tremendously. I came to this forum when I started dating Adam b/c I wanted to be here for him as much as possible and I wanted to be able to offer all the help I could but in order to do that I needed to educate myself. So I thank you all for your knowledge, it is priceless.
What I want to say is that after reading posts here, I’ve seen a common theme….maybe it stems from frustration or depression, maybe it’s a reflection of some of your true feelings and beliefs. I’ve read posts about people not feeling they deserve to commit to marriage or children or chasing dreams BECAUSE of diabetes. I want to say that diabetes does not take away ones RIGHT to love, start a family or to dream. These are all the reasons for living. Nobody should feel guilty or ashamed of having diabetes and nobody should feel that they’d be dooming the lives of those they care about because they have diabetes. Your loved ones LOVE you and feel honored and blessed to have you in their lives. If anyone treats you differently because of your diabetes, screw em! They’re not even worth a second glance.
In my opinion, diabetics deserve and have earned so much more than non-diabetics. Many of you have had to grow up at such an early age. You’ve all taken on your diabetes and confronted it head on, determined to control it and not let it control you. This is proven in that you’re all on this forum. You’ve all had to learn so much and have had to endure so many pains, life changes, stresses and disappointments. Not only that, but since diabetes is hereditary, you’ve had to endure your loved ones having diabetes as well. I am proud of everyone on this forum and I am amazed every day by the challenges you all overcome and the positive attitudes you all keep. I do not think that I could do what you all do day by day by day.
Anyway, I’m rambling. I want yall to know that yall deserve better than the best and that none of yall should ever feel that you have to give up your dreams. They are your GOD GIVEN RIGHT and you deserve them more than anyone else on this planet. For those of you who think non-diabetics are scared off or look down on diabetics, I want to say that I can almost guarantee that 90% of non-diabetics feel exactly as I do. For those 10% who don’t, who needs em!
Cielo...WOW you said it better then I ever could..all I would add to that is AMEN!!!! you hit it right on

You guys are all great. Yall are part of the reason Adam is able to get thru his frustrations with his diabetes and his pump. And now I am just learning so much! Gettingby, you are too nice! Yall may think I'm nice but he calls me the devil, says I've got you all fooled. I wouldn't listen to anything that comes out of his mouth tho, he's crazy.

Cielo, mind if we all print this out and put it in our wife's or husband's face when they get all frustrated with us? ;) Thanks, hon'. there's only one thing I disagree with; you'd do the same things we do if you were diabetic. You being here proves that, as well. Tell Adam he owes you another kiss and hug for me, I forget what the other one was for but I hope you got that one too.

I just thought that if I've heard one or two people on this forum expressing feelings like that, the chances were good that a lot others felt like that sometimes or maybe even believed that deep down, whether they said so or not. And it's not right. I just don't want anyone to think that.

Cielo,
Thanks so much for this post  . I think it was good that you wrote this, b/c, yes, others have felt this way and I think it's important to be reminded that we are still good, valuable people whether we are diabetic or not. We can live long, healthy AND happy lives...we just have that extra responsibility of taking care of ourselves and managing this disease.
So thank-you again for truly expressing yourself so wonderfully...we do appreciate it ;)

:D :o Awww shucks LOL, Cielo. For a pic to be made into an avatar, its width and height should be no larger than 50, or no larger than a 19.5k (file size). Pics also must be in JPG (JPeg) format, not BMP (bitmap). If you have a pic that you'd like re-sized, I'd be glad to help! Thanks again for all your kind thoughts to all of us! You truly are an angel! :)

She is right, there should be no reason why we can't do anything anyone else can do. We are actually better suited for some things than non-diabetics. I'm mean, think about it, we have struggled so much and have had to deal with so much frustration. In my opinion, we are able to deal with adversity a lot easier because of what we've been though. We've all been through a lot! And some good stuff can come out of it! I used the diabetes excuse numerous times. I used it a couple times to get out of a speeding ticket and I used it to get out of a lease. I myself, even tell Diana (Cielo) sometimes that I don't think I deserve her because I don't think it's her job to nurse me. But then she slaps me across the face and I come back to reality.  We should all keep our heads up high and not let diabetes hold us down.
And yes, Dewey, she is an angel. She helps me out tremendously! :hypocrite I'm sure she will use that line to bribe me in the near future.

That's my favorite part, the slapping part. Let me reassure you Adam, for each time you tell me that senseless remark, the slap will get increasingly harder, then out come the claws, then it will turn into a closed fist, then brass knuckles, chinese star....don't you worry your pretty little head. You must all trust your loved ones. We are under no obligation to love you and help you with your diabetes, we do it because we cherish you and it is just a part of you.

Wow.. simply.. wow. I couldn't have said it better even if I tried. Almost brought tears to my eyes, to be honest (but the 'manliness' inside me wouldn't have it! ;))
Thanks Cielo, that was very inspiring. I'm going to print it out and hang it on my wall for when I'm having a low or just crummy day.
