not to sound dumb  but i was wondering about this, when i used to work 2nd shift we were only allowed clean up/bathroom time 15 minutes before it was our lunch half hour. Say if i checked my sugar then and it was too high lets say maybe 220, what do you do take the extra insulin for the high and also your regular insulin for dinner? there were times when i'd take an extra 2-3 units with my reg. insulin then about an hour after eating i'd be low. it was harder when working because you did'nt have time to check ,take shot, eat and then check an hour later. so what is right for a situation like this or if you are out and go to a restaurant and your sugars are running a little high? thanks everyone.

Do they know you r diabetic and how important it is to test? Are you eating enough? Or maybe the 2-3 units is a lil too much?

Christie, hey not a dumb question at all! What type of insulin are you using? If you are on Humalog or Novolog, you might want to wait until right after you finish your meal to give your shot. What type of long acting are you using? If you are on NPH, it might also be that NPH is too high and is catching up with you. I would talk to your endo or cde. It could be that maybe you are just taking too much for the high bg and you need to adjust your ratios.

to answer the first question, the job was pretty good about letting you use the restroom, then when a new company came we were'nt allowed to use the restroom at all, they were even saying they were'nt going to give breaks at all. I am better now because I am on lantus, and humalog. Before I was on humalog and humalin u. there have been times where we were lost and found a restaurant and I did'nt have time to wait for sugars to come down.

I would ck your insulin sensitivity you may be taking too much to bring your numbers down, Like I use 1 unit to bring my numbers down 40 points, you may have to use somthing differant. ck and test, ck and test, you will find out what your ratio is.

Like daddyo said, I would check your sensitivity. Also, you may want to give your insulin immediately after you eat. I am very sensitive to insulin, and I've had many times where I've bolused before a meal and dropped before I even had finished the meal. It may work better for you to give your insulin right after your meal. This also allows you more flexibility, in case you decide not to eat your whole meal, or if you want to add desert :hypocrite

Your response is in very poor taste, at the very least.
