View Full Version : Delayed Absorption?

The last three times I changed sets, I noticed by bgs go high for a few hours. I'm certain I'm priming correctly, but it's as if I'm not getting my basal or boluses for that time. Then after a few hours (2 - 4) my bgs come down and everything is OK until it's time to swap out again. Yesterday my bg climbed 120 points in 2 hours. I was freaking out  . Just when I decide I'd better inject to get bg back down, it seems like the insulin "kicks in".

Any ideas? It only takes 10 minutes (max) to change sets, so I don't think it's the time "off" the pump that's getting me.

Sometimes (in the past) set changes would cause me to go high too. Seems like the ONLY common link in my case was when I'd placed the set into an area that's been known to cause problems, which I must presume might be scar tissue. No where else on my abdomen do I have this problem. The scary thing is when I keep bolusing (like an idiot) over and over to get my bg down. Eventually it will come crashing down. A 1/2 day or more later, I might experience another bout of delayed absorbtion. I avoid that area now, and have had no more problems with high bg's after set changes. I don't ever have trouble with bubbles in the tubing, so lack of insulin delivery isn't the culprit in my case. Since I've changed from softsets to quicksets I get no more bent cannulas because the quicksets adhere more tightly around the cannula. Softsets used to periodically come loose in hot weather, no matter my best efforts to avoid the problem with IV3000 and liberal application of Skin Prep.
