Hello Everyone!!!!!!

I haven't been here for awhile. Honestly, I have been really strugglei.........[Tony, anyway to add spell check to this wonderful site?????]

Anyway, I have been having so many low episodes, that I haven't done much.

I wanted to let you all know that I was called as a "back up" Thursday night/ and into Friday morning for a transplant. The primary recipient received that pancreas and I am now on the top of the list. I am primary now and two other people behind me will be the back ups. I will get my pancreas soon. Anytime now really, allthough, it could still take a couple of months.

It is hard to know that you are waiting for someone to die, so you can live. But, if I don't get this, one of these lows is going to get me. (I don't feel them coming on anymore........no symptoms). And, my kidneys are borderline. So, I really should do this.

So, I wanted to let you all know what was going on. Maybe some of you were wondering........I feel like I have some friends here. :)

You have all wished me luck in the past, please don't feel that you have to post replys like those again. I saved them all in my (brain, not computer's) memory. I just wanted to let you all know.

Jeff or I will tell you when I get it. Hugs, and Love to ALL the diabetics on here, and the loved ones that care for them.

It is hard to know that you are waiting for someone to die, so you can live.

It's not the way I see it. It's a gift :)

Now the wait begins. You will perhaps jump everytime the phone rings. You will wonder if it's THE CALL or not. I hope you receive your gift of life very veryyyy soon Liz!

Sending good thoughts down your way.

Hi Liz, thanks for letting us know how your doing. Sorry you have been struggling, hang in there your close.

It is hard to know that you are waiting for someone to die, so you can live. That is one way to look at it, but those that are willing to donate organs look at it as a last chance for their lives to do some good. Your giving them that chance.

Just think of that small glimmer of joy the grieving family can look to, knowing that their loved one is still alive in some small way. :)

God bless. Good Luck. Kick A$$.

I thought transplants, wheather cells or pan. was just for children. I was un-aware that a person who has been a long term diabetic (over 10 years) was even able to get on the transplant list. I have been diabetic nearly 44 years now and have very few complications, but have begun recently to experience some new problems.

Please explain HOW you were able to get on a transplant list. What did you have to do, what qualifications did your health need to meet?

How long to get to the top of the list?

Will a transplant actually cure you of diabetes?

What is the chance of rejection and what type meds will be required (anti-rejection drugs for life or short term?)

Please educate me as this sounds very interesting and is something I was not aware was possible for an older diabetic.
