I was diagnosed last year with type 2, and have lurked here, off and on, for most of that time. Truthfully, I don't need much by way of help--my last two a1c results have been under 5 (no meds, and no hypos)--but I would like to find a sense of community with other diabetics. I live in a small town, and our local support meetings usually consist of me and the nurse educator. I think she may actually be getting tired of looking at me! I like the color scheme here, so I thought maybe I'd introduce myself and hang around a while, if that's OK by y'all.

Hi Sam...

So, why would they say you are "Type-anything" if your A1c's are so good?

Welcome Sam:)

That's awesome that you are doing so well with managing your diabetes. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little jealous of how you are able to keep such good control with no meds, insulin, or the like :D ...you are very lucky!

I understand you wanting to reach out to other diabetics, sometimes dealing with this disease is not easy and to be able to talk and discuss things with others really does make a world of difference.

So feel free to join us here anytime, hope to see you around :)

Wow! A1C under 5, no meds, no hypos...? What's your secret? :)

How were you diagnosed then?

Take good care now!

Good morning Sam, WELCOME to the forum and congratulations on the great control. I don't care what Kickstart said I think you are needed here. We that are having problems with control need someone like yourself to remind us why we are fighting this horrid disease and that control IS possible. Thank you for joining and hope to hear from you often.

Wow! Thanks for being so friendly! That makes it a lot easier to make post #2. Except for the "instruments removal" bit... That sounds painful! And I'm really not sure I understood it.

For those who asked, regarding A1cs and diagnosis, I wasn't diagnosed by A1c. I didn't have an A1c at all until a couple of months after diagnosis--which is annoying, because I have no baseline measure--and that one was a 7-something. I had a random reading of 300-something, followed by an oral glucose tolerance test, where my fasting reading was in the 300s and my two-hour was in the 400s.

Truthfully, I've questioned the diagnosis, myself. It doesn't help, in terms of my questioning, that I was on beta blockers when diagnosed. But I can't afford to act on a nagging doubt that is, more likely than not, a function of my desire to deny the diagnosis.

I guess you manage the sugar level by diet Sam?

Yes, worth doing it and not questioning diagnosis too much as you certainly don't want to end up on insulin if you can help it. I soooo wish I was diet alone! :(

Good luck! :)

Hi Sam: Geez, I sure hope I didn't scare you off, I don't remember writing that post. I remember writing to LittleBit(Liz) and Jeff but not your post.
I'm thrilled when anyone with Diabetes is doing the Greatest, your my" pride and joy", just to be more proof it can be done with some effort. I was obviously in another "Dimension" which is an occasional happening, particularly with Type 1's, when I wrote that post to you. :o Please accept my sincere apology for that Bad original Welcome.
Sam: Nice to meet you and Welcome to this Great Forum. :)

Hi Tony: My apologies also to you for this Incident. :o I guess I'm Bad!!!

I discovered this forum a few days ago and haven't stopped rabbiting on about it since!!

Everyone is lovely and it's so nice just for everyone to understand what I'm on about when I want to ask a daft question or have a moan or a ramble!!
