Ok, yes, I know it's highly egotistical but I've just got my bloodwork back from the hospital and I'm feeling pretty chuffed.
My A1c is 6.7, a bit higher than I'd have liked, but I was expecting that anyway because I had a rather bad time of it between March and April - hopefully next time I get this done I'll have brought it down to around 6%.
Cholesterol is at 4.1, which I believe is slap bang in the middle of the 'good' range, and I've actually got lower tryglycerides than average - 0.8. Kidneys seems to be doing fine - everything's splat bang in the middle of normal except for the creatinine which is on the higher side of normal at 112umol/l, and albumin, which is ever so slightly high at 50g/l. I'm not sure exactly what this means though, so if anyone can shed any light on that I'd appreciate it. Thyroid seems to be doing fine too.
So, all in all, yeah! Sounds like I'm winning!

Well done!!! Bragging rights deseverd anyway  A great a1c is what we all aim for after all.
Do you ask about all those other results or do you get a print out or something? I only ever get my a1c and then they just tell me the rest is ok, except my cholesterol which they said was bad.. but they don't tell me what it is, I supose it must be higher than 4.1 if yours is good but I don't know what it is. I will ask next time.
Anyway... gald you've done a good job :)

Luckily I'm on very good terms with my specialist (despite her reservations about aiming for a below 6 A1c), so all i have to do is email her and ask what my results are - she sends me a big list of everything they've got back from the lab, along with the 'normal' range for each thing they test - they did 12 different things this time!

Just wondering. Did you doctor say what the normal (average) A1c in a diabetic was?

I don't know what most diabetics actually average, but my endo recommended to me 6.5% as the number to work towards.

Great results!!! Definitely something to be happy about!!!
They have Eri's targeted A1c at 7.0...

She said anything below 7 is good - I disagreed and said anything below 7 was alright, but I wanted better than that. I'm aiming for between 5 and 6 but to behonest, unless I massively overhaul my entire lifestyle I can't really see myself getting much lower than 6.

Wow! Well done indeed!
People with diabetes should be under 5 for cholesterol. You are doing extremely fine in that department
Seems you have found what works for you.

Hi great result..
I was told by my first Dr that 7mmol and below is good. This one says 6.5mmol or 6mmol and under.!!! My first ever Dr (diabetes ) said this would mean risking alot of hypo's........personally I wouldn't be surprised but it's all about damage limitation long term isn' it?!
I'm on Lipitor now and my cholesterol is 4.8. Was 5.5 before. Been on it for 3 months so it's working! Good work if you've done it without medication (I have got 20 yrs on you tho!). My Dr says everyone with diabetes should be on statins NO MATTER WHAT (!) their reading.....?

I'm actually somewhat astonished at my cholesterol level. I don't take any medication for it, I'm hardly what you'd call a prolific exerciser, and a large proportion of my diet consists of beer, kebabs and fried breakfasts.
Guess I'm just lucky!

 Lucky you don't put weight on ( or do you?) Most people I know Type 1 lost a lot of weight and then gained it once having insulin - especially eating alot as having to take insulin to compensate....? Alcohol especially bad for weight gain - in my case I gained a bit once I started drinking a bit again (stopped for 7months as ill with bad back and just diagnosed T1 and also wasn't sure if it was a hypo or booze!).

In the last 3 years I've put on probably about a stone and a half, though I've stayed at a steady 11 stone now for about a year. Got a BMI of 21.6 too, so I guess I must be doing something right, although having said that I'm actually trying to lose a stone right now.

Any one know how long it can take for cholesterol levels to come down from being high? Is it weeks or months, I really want to know if mines come down but it's only been a few weeks now.

... People with diabetes should be under 5 for cholesterol....
Well that depends .... The relationship between HDL and LDL cholesterol is what indicates heart disease risk. My total cholesterol is 5.6. But the total/HDL ratio is very low at 2.3. In fact, all the composite figures are in the acceptable ranges. And total cholesterol is simply a calculated figure. Here are the figures :
LDL 2.5 (should be less than 3.0)
HDL 2.4 (should be greater than 1.0)
Triglycerides 1.5 (should be less than 2.0)
total/HDL ratio 2.3 (should be less than 4.5)
Total cholesterol 5.6 (should be less than 5.0  )
My total cholesterol is high because my HDL is high. And the higher the HDL is, the smaller your chances of heart disease are! The logic went astray here somehow.
Cheers,
Mark;)

Well Deus not bad and not great either, but still a good job.
Had my blood drawn May 16 and like you was expecting something higher. Even though my meter readings averaged 118 mg/dL over 90 days, I was expecting to be within a couple points of 7%. Interestingly I had purchased a ChoiceDM A1c Now at home test kit a couple of months ago and decided to try it after having the blood drawn. Well the test kit gave me a 5.7%, but a week later the Lab results gave me a 6.6 % A1c and high LDL's of 105 mg/dL with a ref of 0-100. So I was just a little high with the LDL, but my total was 169. Guess my new doc is a little proactive in that he doubled my Avandia and Lipitor. He keeps mentioning metformin and I am about ready to ask him if he gets a kickback. Would sooner go on a little insulin than take something else that acts on my liver. Beside I could use the flexibility for a change. :D
