Just curious...

How many times on an average do you test your sugar a day?
Also how many test strips does your endo prescribe to you a month?

I test 8-10 times a day and my doctor prescribes 300 a month... is this normal?

I test 5 to 8 times a day. I have a prescription for 150 strips a month. I would test more if I could get a prescription and I could afford to pay my part of it.

I test anywhere from 6-10 times a day. That and the mis-readings I get from this stupid Ultra-smart, and I'm glad my doctor prescribes 300/month for me.

Varies - some days I don't bother with a single test, others I could be testing every hour. Usually about 8 tests a day though - my teststrips are free and I can have as many as I want a month.

I test about 6-8 times a day but with insurance I only pay 20 cents a strip so I test as much as I feel I need to.

I checked my blood sugar a few minutes ago even though I can't really afford it and it's a good thing I did. An hour and a half ago, it was 156 when I checked it because of a mild headache. It was 27 when I checked it last, even thought the symptoms are the same.

lg, I hope you are doing better. I just hate those low readings when you don't feel that bad. Usually after I test and see a low like that, then BAM I feel all the symptoms

I test 10+ times a day. I get 700 for 3 months. It was supposed to be 900 but the insurance sent 700. So far seems to be working well (I had extra to begin with).

Carlye tests only 4 occationally 5 times a day. We get 200 a month. Should we be testing more?

That is a good one for me. Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed (very often).

In a way I'm relieved that everyone else seems to be testing 5 - 10 times per day! My friend and I (T1's) thought we were going mad doing it! :whistling

I think it depends on what you're day holds etc but I test that amount too to try and get good control and avoid hypo's.

Like Deus, my strips are free and I get 200 a month or every 3 weeks whenever I put a prescription in. (I say free but obviously I pay NI !!).

Thomas tests more often in the afternoon and evening when he is most active (swimming, biking, skateboard.....). In the morning and up til after lunch he will test about 4 or 5 times.
He is still really sensitive to physical activity.

You know, the last time I was at my clinic appointment, I was 'told off' for testing so much!!

I would say I test 7/8 times a day... I don't think that's obsessive.

And anyway, if it works for me, who are they to tell me how often to test?!

There is this ancient thinking that diabetics need to eat at 8AM, 12Noon and 6PM and have a snack before "bed". Also, we need to test before we eat. That's only four times a day. Also, take two shots a day.

This thinking has killed many diabetics. Testing is so critical to our well-being. I've said here I would probably kill if I had to kill to keep my pump, that I would not give it up for anything...but if someone came to me and said "hey duck, we have a new thing that can check your sugars all day long and it is not invasive and it is safe and accurate--but you have to give up your pump..." I would consider it. Knowledge is key.
