Close but no cigar! I'm pre-diabetic, and have a chance from becoming diabetic if I do something now. I've already cut out sugar drinks and am watching my carb intake. I think once I get my weight down substantially I will reduce my risk a lot. Cutting down on the carbs doesn't hurt either! ;)

My Doctors have always said there isn't a 'pre-diabetic' - if your pancreas is not working properly you are diabetic....each hospital seems to have it's own opinions !

Obviously it's different with you as you are diet only now - worth sorting it out as you don't want to end up on insulin I can assure you!!
Right pain in the neck. :(

Hi. I'm new here -- just been told I am pre-diabetic. From what I've read, fasting blood sugar between 100 and 125 is pre-diabetic, while over 125 is full blown diabetes. Since my doctor didn't seem all that worried about my scoring 146 the first time, then down to 130 the second, I decided to do some web research. Basically what I learned is it means I am glucose intolerant and if I don't mend my wicked ways, will most likely end up with Type II.

Needless to say, I am mending my ways. I started taking cinnamon capsules immediately, have ordered bitter melon caps (couldn't get them locally), have re-started a healthy low glycemic diet that was derailed at Easter, and walking an extra mile each day (2-1/2 now--aiming for 3). Something I'm doing is working since I dropped 16 points in two weeks.

Anyway, I'll check in occasionally with both the pre-diabetic board (which is very slow), and read this one to keep learning how to manage diet and such better. I hate needles, so definitely do not want to end up having to stick myself several times a day.

Cheers! Belfrybat
