My husbands reading was 90 but he was shaky and sweaty... he went from 118 to 90 ... and I know 90 is normal but he felt that it was a lot lower. Is that normal ? I'm so confused. :o

Didn't you say in a previous post that hubby's bg's have been running high? If so, then 90 could very well feel low to him. His body is used to high numbers and anything below what he normally runs will make him feel "low".
Hope that helps you to understand it a little. :)

Yep it was REALLY high wed to sat ... I was just hoping it was getting under control. But now it's back up to 170 again.

This is very confusing, even after so many years of having it, sometimes, it makes me feel frustrated at times. Right now your husband is looking at a training period which his body needs re hydration due to his blood sugar being so high is practically dehydrated his body. This takes a lot of getting used to , him, you , and his body. Take it slow and step by step, I know how frustrated and confused you must feel.(Deep breathe)

Many times I have checked my blood sugar thinking it was high when it turned out to be low or thinking I was having an insulin reaction when it turned out to be high. I get very frustrated with it. Wish I had an answer for you. I had that very problem this afternoon, I thought I was having an insulin reaction and my blood sugar was 156. An hour and a half later, I felt just the same but my blood sugar had dropped to 27 and I had no idea.

Wow it's common I guess !
You won't believe what I did though... I bought new testing strips and didn't calibrate the meter with the new strips... and it might be why the readings were off. I tested my own BG as something to go by and before I calibrated the new strips it was 144 and after I fixed it was 84. So he may have had an even lower reading than 90 this afternoon. I was actually surprised to see my own so low after eating! I have actually been feeling a bit shaky all day ... must be a sympathy reaction!

There have been many times where I've felt low and was within a normal range, or actually a bit high. Almost two years since diagnosis, and it never ceases to stump me over and over again.

Yeah, I think we all feel that way alot. I'm going on 21 years and the big "D" still mystifies me at time.

Welcome to the Wonderful World Of Diabetes,

Sometimes, to make a game of it, I will have a bet with my wife whether or not the "Sensation" (of Low or High) is actually accurate.

Most of the time I'm very close and that makes me feel good. Once in a while, I feel the Exact opposite of the reading taken--tells me that I've got to do something to get the proper sensation awareness back------Ah, the NeverEnding Fun and Excitement :smartass:

Dont forget to always wash his hands too (Or he could do them himself :p )

Sorry if you already do anyway I don't want to sound patronising at all :) But a couple of times i've not botherd to wash mine before testing and I got a completly wrong result. Once I tested and got a result of 216 when I later found out I was 52.. which is obviously not good.

I agree, washing hands and rinsing well with plain water is very important.

The other thing I have found is that I react less to the actual value but more to a change in BS level. What I mean is that I feel more unwell if the sugar level drops than the actual value it lands at even if that is only 4.5mmole/l (81mg/dl). But then again I'm Type 2 and life for me is different - see the list of meds. in the signature.

My daughter encounters the same problems...lately SHE considers herself low if she is in even the mid 80's to 90's...and then she just realizes she hasn't really seen numbers like that in a while...it is definitely something that keeps you on your toes...

Thats a good point... and right now I do feel like I have to wash his hand for him!
He is completely blind today... can barely see shapes and lines. I am waiting for the *** of a doctor to call back, they cant see him today! I think this doctor may have a lawsuit on his hands.
