What's up everyone? I'm about to join many of you as a Pumper but I have one question. I love to be outdoors and go to the lake, beach, swim, run and bike. What do you do to prevent your infusion set from coming loose or fall off? How do you keep your pump at the right temperature. In what ways do you keep your pump out of sight and out of mind? Ok, Two questions. For me this will be the biggest hurdle. Thank you for your answers and suggestions. I have a Paradigm pump. So if you know of any nice accesories please include.

Gotta have the cheesy smile!

Hey Vic,
If you go to the minimed store you can find a bag that stores your pump in it....like one of those bags that go around your waste....you can fit your meter pump and snacks and stuff in it also if your out in hot weather it also has room to keep an ice pack to keep your pump from being too hot....

For me to keep my pump out of site, i stick it in my bra...it doesnt move in there lol :D

the also have like a harness that you can wear underneath your shirt...like what policmen wear for their guns, except its for your pump ....

Im also on the paradigm, it can actually go in water up to a half hour at a time....i wouldnt chance it though...you can just disconnect from your p ump....for the time that you are in the water...just keep checking your blood throughout the day and reconnect and bolus as needed and makeup for the insulin that you didnt get in the time you had it off....i usually bring somesort of insulated bag to keep my pump in so its out of the sun...your pump wont disconnect on its own unless its like pulled out of you or gets caught on something....i run with my pump and i have no problems with it being connected right onto to my shorts or pants...you shouldnt have any problems with it being the way or anything....

Thanks Gina, I thought since I didn't introduce myself I wouldn't get any answers. I want to get one of those. Its a fanny pack right? Well, I have 7 more days until I get plugged in. I can't wait. I really enjoy this forum. Still feeling down? I read your other post about being frustrated.

Vic,
I havent been pumping a month yet so I cant tell you anything new. I did get a pamplet with my pump (minimed 508) that had accesories. I ordered the waist pouch so I could use it when I sleep. I tend to toss from one side to the other all night and the pouch is great. I wear it around the house too but when I go somewhere it is attached to my pocket. As for doing things outdoors this summer I need to figure out what I am going to do when I go camping. Please let me know what you think of any accesories you get. I would like to know how you like them.

Hey Vic, Like Gina said, heres many different bags and packs to put your pump in. Some pumpers love them, and theyre worth checking out, but I dont use any of them. I disconnect if Im swimming. Doing other sports, it depends on the circumstances and how much contact I have whether I disconnect or leave it on. Disconnecting also allows me to put my pump in a safe cool place(with my wife).
Which infusion sets are you using? Some, like quicksets and sils, stick better than others like softsets. If youre having problems with even the stickier sets peeling off, theres concoctions, like Mastisol, to keep them stuck on. I wouldnt use the mastisol, unless youre actually having a problem cuz its expensive. $$$

Susie,

you dont have to wear the fanny pack to bed, thats just crazy, i toss like nobodys business, i hook the pump right onto my pajama bottoms and it doesnt move at all....

Besides the MINIMED website do you know of other vendors that provide pump accesories?

I use disetronic so I won't be much help for acc. but I can tell you. The pump is not hard to get used to, actually with all the "cool" things they make for pumps, it is neat. I wear an elastic band with a small cloth thing that holds my pump secure to my stomach. make sure you have it somehow strapped to you at night...because before I got the strap I was always pulling them out when I was asleep. That Sux.
