so... im thinking about eating dominos pizza tonight.. is this a good idea? how much should i have? i neeed peperoni!
Go to CalorieKing.com and get the carb count for the Dominos pizza you're going to eat. Take enough insulin to cover it...
BUT
If you are like me and many other diabetics, about two hours after the pizza-love-fest, your sugars will rise, even when you take the perfect bolus to cover the carbs in the pizza. So check your sugars, take a correction bolus/shot. If you're on a pump, it's a little easier.

Hi Tony,
Pizza can really run your numbers up. Be sure to check your sugar beforehand. If your sugar is at a level that you believe will allow it, have a large salad and then a couple of slices. One nice thing about limiting yourself, the pizza will last longer. I like to rewarm leftovers for breakfast. :D
I would also encourage you to monitor a couple of hours after you eat and again before bedtime. By keeping a close watch you can get an idea of how the pizza affects you.
If I have pizza from someplace I normally buy Papa John's. Their thin crust doesn't seem to send my numbers up as much as some others.
Happy eating and keep us posted,
Travis

I try to only have one slice of pizza these days, I always get a huge rise in my blood sugar later on if i eat any more.. no matter what amount of insulin I take I never get it right.
Enjoy your peperoni :)
:D I would like mine with just cheese please.
But if she's having a plain cheese.... I'd like a spicey meet feast please :D

Hehe...I too find that pizza usually causes a delayed rise in bg levels after about 2 hours. Then again, when I eat a pizza, I do just that - I eat the pizza. All of it.
Unless it's a large one, in which case I'll usually leave about a quarter of it, and have the rest for breakfast the next day.

That's been my experience too.
But, I still have pizza, I just keep checking and covering until I have B/G back under control.

It's never a good idea to eat Domino's Pizza!!!!
I'd rather eat the cardboard box it comes in, try Papa Johns, or even frozen! :D

Boy I must be spoiled...I only eat what comes from my fil's pizzeria...lol...
How about a white pizza? Or a steak fajita pizza, chicken finger pizza, spinach pizza, broccoli and cheddar....sweet sauce...oh the list goes on...but I'm partial to white pizza...or sweet sauce...
Ever had a pizza from Bertucci's? ANY of their pizzas are heavenly. I dunno if they'd be any good for say, beer and football, but as far as good eating you can brag about....Mmmmmmmmmm.

Once you've been to New York AND Chicago and had a pie, there's really no reason to eat pizza in the South ever again! :(

I hear that all the time...My buddies from NYC tell me that "New York" pizza when made outside of NYC just isn't as good...One day I will make a trip *just* for the pizza.

I still think Chicago is rated #1 for thier pizza. Even the pizza at the baseball stadiums is excellent.

Don't take this the wrong way anyone, but if I was going to declare one pizza better than the other depending on where it's from, I'd look for one made in Italy, rather than the States.

Don't take this the wrong way anyone, but if I was going to declare one pizza better than the other depending on where it's from, I'd look for one made in Italy, rather than the States. Comparing Italian and American Pizza is like comparing apples and oranges. They are round, cooked in a shallow pan, and have a bottom layer crust which is why they have the same name. Also a Pizza from Northern Italy and Southern Italy commonly have very different ingrediants. At least that was my experience 36 years ago.

I was going to say this yeterday, Italy Is definitely the best place for pizza. Although the ones I had out in Gran Canaria were certainly something special. I prefer thin an tastely my self. Also the chinese food I used to have once a week in Gran Canaria was to die for... was so heavenly it was amazing... much better than the uk rubbish!
But hey back to pizza.................. :whistling

The scary thing is that when you go to China, you realise that what we call 'Chinese' food bears no resemblence whatsoever to what they eat there.

Well the chinese in Gran Canaria was totally diferent to what we have here, I wondered if it was more like the real thing.
English chinese restaurants cater for we like here I supose, english people probably wouldn't eat it if it was 'too' chinese :p . I've never been to china so I wouldn't know :)

Hmm...never been to China either...how about Japanese food?
After watching "The Iron Chef"...makes me wonder if I would ever eat anything besides shumai or sushi...or a select few other dishes :)
I have never been to Italy as well...but have had "authentic" Italian cooking since my family is mostly from over there.
I've had Chicago pizza...it's ok...not too bad...but never tried the pizza in NYC.(probably will this summer though :))

Unless the prospect of an entire octopus served in a bowl of hot water makes you lick your lips, you're probably better off sticking with the chicken & cashews.

Ok, back to Domino's pizza. Personally, I'm getting sick of Domino's. Whenever we order pizza at work, that's where it comes from. I'm sorry but give me Pizza Hut any day. :whistling
I've had pizza in Italy, had pizza in Chicago, and still don't think either of em can shake a stick at what we've got here in good ole NYC. And don't even think about trying the pizza in Ireland. Except for this one place in Dublin, a native NYer owns it... I can't remember the name of the place tho.
and IMO Domino's isn't pizza.
:stupid: <--- sign should read "pizza snob"

California Pizza Kitchen :) Thai Pizza is awesome and now they have a new super thin crust that my husband did ok with. It's in the frozen pizza aisle. BUT I do totally miss Boston and New York style pizza, California sucks when it comes to pizza and Chinese food. Please don't get Dominos please please please! :nerd:
