Hi all :)
Well, today was Eri's appt...they upped her morning NPH and nighttime NPH, and next month SHE STARTS THE PUMP!!!....I was actually shocked!!! We saw 3 different doctors...and the nutritionist...CDE wasn't in today...
Anyhow, I have to call tomorrow, even though the one endo sent a letter up to the educator on advance carb counting class...and getting Eri set up for her instructor and all that good stuff :) :) :)
Talk about happy!!! Those 2+ hours were well worth the wait!!! :)
The only thing that had Eri a bit upset was this one doc(whom we have never met b/f) told Eri she was fat(she is almost 5' tall and weighs 88lbs)...now she thinks she needs to diet....UGH!!!!!!!
Other than that...it was a great visit :)
I'm still in shock that they agreed so readily!!!

Robin, I am so glad you (Eri's) dr. visit went well. All but the fat part. I dont think she is even close to fat. The last picture you posted of her she looked perfect! For her age and size sounds like she is just right.

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY !!!
Way to go.. I was actually thinking about eri all afternoon, so glad everything is looking better. Endo's have this habit of using the "fat" word, They do that to me all the time. She is a beautiful little girl that has a lot to grow up and now with the pump, she will be rockin'!!!

Doctors are idiots! Fat???? Do they have any idea what that does to a kid's self esteem? Especially since she is dealing with so much already. That Dr. needs a smack... after they set up her pump that is :)
I am so happy for you! You are an awesome mom.
Now you can relax a little! You deserve a night out or something... :p

Awww...thanks all :)
This was the doc I had never met b/f...I must've been sitting there w/ my jaw on the ground...after he left the room, Eri was all red faced and said she must have allergies(no, she was torn up)...but we were both estatic about the pump!!!
I wish I could have spoken to that doctor alone...a couple years ago, Eri went through this phase where she thought she was fat...all she ate was salads or carrots or green beans...I finally had her endo in FL talk to her, and he said that if she did not start eating correctly, he'd have her brought in and fed through a stomach tube...she was on this exercise kick as well....she still exercises, and she'll be the first to admit that she has a "pooch" for a stomach, but that's normal...plus, it's where she is taking the majority of her shots as well.
Anyhoo, I watch her like a hawk as it is, and I keep reiterating that she is perfect the way she is...
Now, to get down to bsns and get ready for actual pumping!!! :)

What the heck?!!! I can't believe how insensitive and STUPID some doctors can be! Do they realize that those types of comments really make an impact on girls, especially those beginning adolescence? One stupid comment like that can send a young, impressionable girl down the road to an eating disorder. GRRR! That really gets to me , b/c I've been down that road and it's a scary and dark place to go down. I truly hope that this does not start Eri on any diet kick or unhealthy eating pattern. I think that's the last thing she needs right now. I think it's a ridiculous comment to make, she looks perfectly fine the way she is and 88lbs for that height is right in range. Please keep reassuring her that she does NOT need a diet, she's beautiful just the way she is. If she doubts that, you can show her all these posts... we have no reason to lie to her so hopefully she'll believe us.
On a happier note... YAY :) I'm so glad that Eri is going to be utilizing the pump very soon. I know that she's waited awhile and probably is pretty anxious to get started. I really hope that it helps to control her sugars much better and she starts to feel better too.
Thanks for letting us know how her appointment went...hopefully this will be the start of a lot of good things for Eri. She deserves it! ;)

Eri is SOOOOO happy about the pump...the one other thing she did say though, that gets her nervous, is changing for PE. She was like, Mom, the other girls will see everything...I said, first off, I wish you would just let ppl know, it's nothing to be embarrassed by...secondly, if you are REALLY that uncomfortable w/ it, then you will be able to change in a private area...
As for the fat comment...she came home and is now watching the labels even more closely than b/f...ugh. She can't get out of the head that she is "fat", she's trying to make me promise her that we will start jogging the track and play basketball every day...and, of course, wants weights to strengthen and tone. Some doc's(ppl) just don't think b/f they speak.

Once she gets the pump I would send the Dr. a little note... because it's such a bad choice of words and uncalled for to boot!

Carlye and I came up with a fun thing for her pump (during the trial) that might be fun for you guys too. We figured people in school would walk around asking why Carlye had on a pager, I told Carlye that she doesn't have to tell anyone what it is and that she could come up with a bunch of silly comebacks here are just a few.
"I put a call into the president, and I'm waiting for a call back"
"Last week I contacted aliens on the Planet Nesbar and I am waiting for a return call"
"It is my school continment system, I get shocked if I leave school when I'm not supposed to"
"that's not a pager, thats a pancreas, geez don't you pay attention in science?"
She has told different people different things and they all walk around with a dumb look on their faces, but they never ask again. And, it was really fun thinking up uses for the pump...
  !!!!!!!!Oh and YEAH for ERI, you get a Pump!!!!!!!
