Hi again...
As you know, Eri's been having those whacked out readings, BUT, the worst are still the wake up readings. She's had the nighttime dosage upped by 6 units since May 17 I believe, and last night, b/f bed, she was 53...she had her recommended snack, and in the middle of the night she was normal, and when she woke up, she was 308. She had her recommended carbs, 45...and about 3oz of juice, but drank a whole water as well. Frustrating...can't wait to see if the pump does any better!!!(btw, her bg's throughout the day were perfect :) )

She definitely seems to be "suffering" from some kind of hormonal surge early in the AM, which for most kids her age is very normal. Obviously, they are not exactly doing wonders for her blood sugars.

I believe the pump will help--a lot. I hope you can also get on a CGMS to see when these things begin to happen for Eri so you can program the pump to compensate.

Thanks, Duck...
I'd say she is definitely hormonal...lol...
I did ask about the CGMS, and the CDE didn't think they'd go for that...
at least we have the pump to look forward to :)

Eri's probably experiencing the "Dawn Phenomenon" where blood sugars rise in the early morning. I have this problem as well (it's very common). You will be able to correct that very easily with the pump. Glad to hear about the good bg's in the day :D

If the doctor writes it correctly then she could get one. I believe my insurance pays for it twice a year ( might be 2??) but be agressive with her care. You have come a long way....and yes the hormones have lots to do with it

Has anyone had any luck with the continuos monitoring systems? I have a glucowatch that I am very unhappy with. It errors out or "skips" readings. Last time I tried to wear it, instead of readings every 15 min, I got 3 readings in over 4 hours before I gave up on the thing.

This is the second glucowatch I have had - both are useless to me. My endo says she has had no luck with them either and no longer prescribes them

Have any of you tried this one or other brands? Do they work for you?

Eri's still on NPH, right? I had a lot of whacky readings when I was on it- for years. At times I thought it was dawn phenomenon and at other times I thought it was rebounding form all the lows. It was VERY frustrating. Switching to lantus really helped me. I think I remember you saying that Eri's doctor doesn't want her on lantus now. I sure hope things straighten out when she starts the pump.

A boy in our old neighborhood had that watch...not for too long either. Also, the endo's we saw down in FL didn't like the watch...said it wasn't very accurate.

Sparkle, yes, Eri is on NPH...no lantus and I suppose they will put her on the humalog when she starts the pump next month(I PRAY that pump works well!!!)

OOOH....BTW, I did speak to the nutritionist today :)...Eri(herself) has got to call one of the nurses every Monday for the next 4 weeks w/ her daily readings...we go to the Advanced Carb Counting course on June 28 :)...then, sometime after the 4th of July she should be starting the pump!!!
We're so happy :)
