Hey, hang in there :o . It does get easier as you get into a routine.

The best advice I can give you is to educate yourself as much as possible, assemble a great medical team, take care of yourself, and seek support. Also, don't feel like this is the end to your happy life...you can still live a long, healthy, AND happy life. Don't let Diabetes stop you! :)

Take care,

Andrea :nerd:

Andrea is right. After time you will adjust to your new lifestyle. I was depressed and mad at myself when I was first told I had diabetes (type2). But now my way of life is routine and easy to accept. I eat more healthy than I ever had and I am problably in the best shape of my life. Now I feel being diabetic has extended my life, not ended it.

You STILL have a great life - it just takes a little more planning. :D It gets easier, you'll see. I'm going on 14 years in and it's just another facet of my life, like doing the laundry and looking after my cats, whatever.

I know its scary and at time frustrating. Learning all you can about your condition is your best defense. For a while it would be good to keep a detailed diary of your blood glucose readings, insulin intake type and quantities of foods you eat and time. You will begin to see how 1/2 cup rice affects your blood and how 4/oz tuna affects your blood if you record each food and how much and how your before and after BG readings were. track your foods for a while and soon you will be able to judge exactly what you needs will be and how much insulin to take.

As a kid my parents taught me that diabetes is a condition - not a disease.

a disease can be cured

a condition can be managed

With proper management your life need not change. Be happy, active and remember you are not sick, you just have a manageable condition and you will do just fine.
