Good Morning everyone, I am just wondering if any of the T2 people that are on insulin are on Avandia as well.If so would you be so kind to let me know how it is working. Went to my endo on Tuesday and he decided to put me on insulin at night and see if it helps my bs levels. He will put me on other insulin as well if this doesn't do the trick but he wants me to stay on the glyburide and avandia for now. He was saying that there may be some side effect such as shortness of breath. If this happens I am to stop the avandia immediatly. Anyone know anything about this?? I am glad that this fellow is as good as he is as the other specialist I went to just told me to lose weight and I'd be fine. I know that would help but it is easier said than done.

Hi Dode,

I am not taking insulin, but have been taking Avandia for the last four years. Was taking 4mg a day until last month when my doc doubled my dosage. A quick answer your question about shortness of breath is that it is a symptom of your body retaining too much water and causing heart problems. Only a small percentage of people have adverse effects from avandia, but when they occur they are severe. Besides the heart the liver is another one to look out for. I am suprised the doctor only told you about the shortness of breath. Here are some symptoms to keep an eye out for from MedlinePlus (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/uspdi/500022.html).

HEART; If you are rapidly gaining weight, shortness of breath, or have excessive swelling of hands, wrist, ankles, or feet. These may be symptoms of heart problems or your body keeping too much water.

LIVER; If you experience abdominal or stomach pain, dark urine, loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting, unusual tiredness or weakness, or yellow eyes or skin, check with your doctor immediately. These may be symptoms of liver problems.

Thanks for the reply Harold, I will certainly watch for all this. So far so good. I am certainly feeling better with the avandia than I was on metformin and I can't wait to get my bs levels under control which I am sure will lead to feeling even better. Thanks again.

Sorry can't help you with the Avandia, however I am on insulin and also on Metforum and Actos and that has brought my BS back to nomal range. For the first time in 4 years.
