 HI I am new to board I am type II diabetic for about 5 years am on metformin 2000 a day, recently on actos and just 4 days ago on Novolog..to be used with sliding scale.. I thought I had a UTI but after a urine test doctor said sugar is spilling in my urine.. my sugar has been fluctuating from 200- 350 and insulin is not working. I am female and this sugar spill even irritates my private parts and leaves an awful residue almost like an infection. (sorry guys about being so graphic) I was just wondering if anyone else out there has had this problem and if so how was it treated..it is miserable!!
Thanks in advance for your replys! :)

Hi and welcome to the forum. You will find this to be a wonderful place to ask and answer questions and share information.

As far as your problem is concerned, it sounds as if you could have a yeast infection. If you've never had one before, it would be best to go to your primary care dcotor or ob-gyn to make sure. Yeast infections can be successfully treated in several different ways.

Welcome Chacha....

TO me Sugar spilled in the urine is basically your high blood sugar readings. That can cause so many things including UTIs, yeast infections and many other infections. It is very discomforting!(icky sticky feeling). Feel free to Pm me or email.

I was having the same problems 120 units a day of Humalog. 1,000mg Metformin and then put on 15mg of Actos. It took the actos about 4 weeks to kick in and I have been cutting down my insulin from there. I am now down to 70 units of insulin and have morning lows so it will come down somemore over the next few weeks. I went from 300 plus bs a day to not going over 130 and as low as 20 the last few weeks. Give the actos some time to kick in, my DR said 4 to 6 weeks and work with that. Maybe that will help

Good Luck

I personally think you should try and see an Endo. Unfortunatrly, GP can only do or see so much when it comes to Diabetes. Please let us know what happens and much luck to you. If you have more questions,,,,, go ahead, were here :o

Cinnabon,
Thank you so much for your reply.. I am going to talk to my GP tomorrow and tell her I want to see a endo. My rhumatologist called me last week after a blood test and told me my liver enzymes were elevated...i dont know if tht has anything to do with my elevated sugar. Diabetes is only 1 thing i have going on...I also have Fibromyalgia, Rhumatoid Arthritis, hypothyroid, depression, asthma just to name a few so I am on many types of meds..I wont bore you with the list.

I am sure I will be asking more questions..I am so happy I found this site.

thanks again

Terrie

Hi Terrie,

The Actos may cause elevated liver enzymes and your GP needs to monitor them at least every three months. Let your GP know your "rhumatologist called me last week after a blood test and told me my liver enzymes were elevated.." Only slightly elevated is no problem but if they start going way up it maybe too much of a load on your liver with all of the meds your taking. I see you listed depression, depression and liver function are closely related so pay close attention to how you are feeling. The sugar seems to be an irritant by itself as well as a growth medium, and if left alone too long everything will try to grow in it. Very frequent cleaning/flushing is required when spilling sugar. The high bg's are why your spilling the sugars.

Well if they are only slightly elevated it maybe a temporary thing untill you become adjusted to it. Still see if you can get liver enzymes checked every three months untill they normalize.

Good Luck!

From Experience,
To cut time, I always asked my GP to run a complete blood test done, especially the A1C. This way when the new Endo saw me.. we went straight to work. In that complete bloodwork you ask him to test your enzymes as well, if that's your other concern. I'm really glad you did found us.... :D

I'm also Type2 and I support the advice Harold has given you. My liver function is checked very regularly as enzymes in the urine (my Dr. tells me) is one of the possible complications of Type 2 diabetes (yes, I know it's not exclusive to Type 2s but the mechanism is different). In addition, in the early days when my sugar was still high (higher than yours) I got a yeast infection between my toes, which went with treatment and also with the sugar coming down.

The other advice you have been given about talking to another doctor is also valid. I only got a complete picture about my condition when I pieced together what I was being told by a specialist consultant, my GP and my diabetes nurse. Try not to panic and question everything you are told and make sure it sound logical and sensible to you and that you understand it - if not, ask again, and again until you do understand --- that's what I did, and it preserved my sanity :1eye:

If you need support this is the place to come!

Hello Everyone!,

I did call my doctor today because my sugar was still 344. So nurse said that doctor wants to increase my actos..at tht point i did tell her about my elevated liver enzymes from my other tests. My A1c came back with a 9.5 tht is the worst I have ever had it...uck!! I have also felt very feverish today that the hairs on my arms stand up...Docto wants to see me tomorrow Wednesday... at tht time I will address a endrocrinologist. My shrink also said tht the stress I have been under may cause elevation too... Death in family, my recent knee surgery....I am exhausted!!!

Thanks so much everyone for your support I really appreciate it.

Absolutely! Stress sends the sugar up. With what you are going through your liver must be pumping glucose furiously in response to your higher adrenalin levels.

It's always easy to advise someone else in these circumstances - but - if you can, try not to get worked up about your sugar levels and concentrate on getting over your operation and bereavement. Try to leave the worrying about your condition to your doctor and nurse - as long as you are satisfied that they are giving you good advice and listening to what you tell them.

Hang in there :)

Hello my friends,

I thought I would let you in on my doctor visit...Well it seems I have not been doing my insulin right as I have not done it before. I was not taking as often as I should so my doctor is gonna give me two weeks of doing it properly and if it doesnt come done she will put me strictly on insulin...well maybe it was the scare because when i got home i checked my sugar and it was 199 that is much better than it has been. My doc said to check before each meal and before bed and take insulin according to my sliding scale. All my other blood tests,,, ldl...hdl..tri...cholesterol ..etc. etc.etc...are perfect except my A1c is 9.8not good...Tomorrow evening I am going to start diabetic classes to start my diet... And yes my doc said stress plays a big big role on sugar levels.. She wanted to increase my actos and i said no not now.... My GP said my liver enzymes are just slightly elevated nothing to worry about but will keep an eye on it... my Rhumatologist is the one that stop my Methotrexate because of elevation which my GP was surprised.

As far as an endrocronologist...she said we dont really have any good ones in town but we will discuss after the two weeks.. I agreed.

So again I thank you all for your shoulder.

God Bless!

Terrie aka chacha!! :)

;) Well everyone I thought I would update you all on whts been going on. Well my doctor has me on 1,000 metformin twice a day a.m. and p.m actos and novolog per sliding scale. thus far my levels are still wacko can't seem to get below 158. A 24 hr urine has been ordered and results will be in a couple days. Also my rhumatologist has ordered ulrasound on liver since has been elevated 3 times now 63 whtever tht means... and I have a appt with gastro doc. I notice I have also been having pain on my right side and headaches..

I started my diabetic classes last thursday and are very interesting! I think once I lose some weight tht will help too. My knee is healing pretty good just no energy. My doc did want to increase my actos and I said no because of my elevated liver enzymes.

I hope the rest of you are doing well.. Take care and God Bless.

63 means something is bothering your liver. When my doctor sent me to the Gastroenterologist, which I will refer to as Gastro from now on :1eye: , he was kind of freaking  because my levels were over 200 :p . The Gastro was like no big deal just stop smoking, drinking, sleeping , breathing, and stay out of the sun. Then if they are still elevated after a year and a half he would do a biopsy. Took me almost the whole year and a half to figure out what was bothering my liver. Then after twelve years and a dx of diabetes I went back to see the Gastro and he did a biopsy anyway  . My last blood work showed my AST at 27 and ALT at 30  . So stay calm there is time to figure out what is bothering you. Oh when my doctor wanted to double my avandia and lipitor I asked him to consult with my Gastro first. My Gastro got pissed when he found out I had been put on Lipitor, but he okay'd the increase anyway :nerd: .
