So, ten minutes ago I brought my Cozmore online. After almost four years on a MM 508, there are some slick features about the Cozmore that practically amaze me:

The fact that it self-primes, self-loads and knows exactly how much insulin was in the reservoir without me having to do anything.

The fact that when I chose "load cannula", it basically said "dude, it's already loaded" (but it did not call me a newbie).

The battery life and insulin remaining readouts are a nice touch.

What I do not like so far: I am not digging this leather case: I wish it was a velcro snap as opposed to a button snap.

So, so far, so good.

I was briefly hooked up to both pumps, it was kinda weird. I almost took a pic, but some things are best remembered only in one's mind's eye.

I don't know how the Animas 1250 does it, but the antiquated (but bulletproof) MM 508 required that you tell it how many units you have in your reservoir when you load it in, then you needed to "prime" it by selecting the prime function where it basically bolused (but did not count it against your bolus totals--confused yet?), and you had to watch the end of the cannula for a bead of insulin. When you saw the bead/were satisfied that delivery would be good, you stopped the 508 and inserted the insertion set.

This Cozmore loads the reservoir automatically, knows how much insulin is in the reservoir, and then asks you to continue to fill the tubing (you still have to stop it when that's done). The process is just so much easier. Progress is niiiiiiiiice. :D

on the priming thing... I have a MM 515 and it rewinds itself when you change resivours and it still has a manual prime. My thought is, I would rather visually verify that my tube has been primed than let the machine decide... This is my first pump, but I really like it.

Hope your new pump treats you as good as your old one!

as soon as I got my cozmo I bought a AAA battery charger and a box of rechargable batteries. The total cost at Sears Hardware was less than 25.00 and it sure saves me the trouble of having fresh batteries on hand. My glocowatch, and the TV remote control also use AAA batteries so I make sure I have plenty charged and ready all the time.

I know how hard it was to give up your old 508, my 507C is still staring at me each time I open my top misc drawer in my bedroom. It looks lonely there all by itsself.

But as I did, you will discover all sorts of cool features on your cozmo - after 1 year I am still finding out how tio do new things with it.

I love the alarm system where I can set the times I need to check my BG - it beeps I check and then record it in my book as well as in my pump.

I have read here that some of you have preset certain meals into your pump - I do not know how to do that - (my trainer was not from delco but Animas and did not know how to use the cozmo) can someone walk me thru it?

Congrats Duck. I have had my MiniMed 508 now since 2001. I am due for a new one next year as they extended my warranty one year when I turned down the upgrade. I wonder if my insurance company will still let me get a new one now? hmmmmm

Nancy, I was kinda paranoid about that too, especially since the insurance I have now is the same company I had back when I got my 508--But when I called to see if it would be covered, one of the stipulations the rep read back to me was a bunch of mumbo-jumbo about currently being on a pump BUT that pump being out of warranty. So, apparently that is at times a justified reason.

"Woo-Hoo" Duck! :thumbsup: Glad to hear you started on your new friend! Congrats, and may you have many more cool milestones. Hang in there. I know the separation from your 508 isn't easy, but we're all here for you, and those of us who have been there, completely understand. :) Here's to a brand new chapter of pumping! :thumbsup:

Koblenz cut the flap off from his and I have no idea where my case is, just put the pump in my pocket or use a $.98 camera case from Walmart that goes on my belt and holds pump, chemstrips and finger poker.

I received the leather case yesterday and was a bit disapointed that it must be unsnaped to see the screen. Seems to me that the flap should be clear like my cell phone case, so Visual access is always available.

Other than that it works better than the hard plastic "holster" that came with my pump. The clip seems tighter and to hold better.

Do you have to have the pump in a case, or does it come with a clip that you could clip onto your belt ?

The Deltec now comes with both a leather case & a belt clip. The case can be used either with or without the meter attached, whereas the clip can only be used when the meter's not. Many people have either cut the leather cover off (as it seems to be a tight fit when the meter's on the back, and they cannot fasten the snap), or have found alternative means. I found a cool purple case from Diabetes Mall for like $17.00, which fits both meter and pump. It has a velcro cover, but the display cannot be seen, and it has to be removed to test sugars. Not a bad trade-off, though. :thumbsup:
