I've heard rumers that Minimed is poised to introduce their new paradigm pump with "integrated" BG sensor. Does anyone know when this is set to happen? I'm getting ready to switch insurance companies, which means I must get a new pump (my old insurance company rents my current pump). I need to know when to make this transition so as to maximize my gains.

most likely that pump you are referring to will not be out til next year. I could be wrong but the x15 series pumps have been out less than a year...
I want the next MM pump as well... the BG sensor is an awesome touch.
MM is known for their very generous upgrade programs. If you are interested in a future pump from them, I would enquire if the upgrade path would exist for you if you were to get a current pump they have on the market.

is there a difference in the deltec cozmo and the deltec cozmore pumps
I thought the Cozmo came out about three years ago and the Cozmore is the pump+Freestyle Glocumonitor?

So far MiniMed has been less than helpful to me when I asked for an upgrade from my 508. They tell me I don't qualify because I turned down the upgrade a year after I got my pump. My warranty is up December 2005.

You could tell them that Deltec will offer you $$$ to "upgrade" to a Cozmore... :whistling

They made that offer to me, but that was before insurance...I wonder if I can ask for that now? (eeeevil laugh)

Hi twocute,
The only differences (beside the fact that the later model comes with the meter), are the revision number (of pump and software), and some added features with the later model (aka the 1700). Initially, I had the older model, and the rep. took me to breakfast. While we snacked, he upgraded the software via the IR (infra red) port. Very cool, indeed.
I'm not certain when the next generation of Minimed's pumps will be out (with the handy glucose sensor), but I sure hope the projected release date is far better than that of their "Implantable pump" (here in the US, anyhow). :whistling

Jorj,
If you're switching your insurance company = new pump, you might consider the Deltec CozMo option. Their product has the "integrated"* BG sensor. (* technically, it is an add-on device, that will clip-into the pump, and be able to relay BG readings to the pump, via IR interface. Still requires a finger prick, and a test strip). Appearantly available in the US now; available in Canada ~ Oct. '05.
Cheers,

The new model 522 or 722 should be out in a year. It will have a BG sensor, but will not automticly give you insulin, only BG readings.

Is the sensor inplanted? Do you have a link to info?

No. You change it just like you change sets. It has a transmitter that send the reading to the pump.

This is the pump I would really like my insurance to buy. Do you know how early next year it will be available?

Jorj since you are on the MM512 right now, MM will let you upgrade when the new pump comes out. It will cost you about 300 dollars. I'm fairly certain that the insurance will not pay that fee, but that's actually not to bad for a new pump w/all the bells and whistles.

You will have to insert it just like your current canula. It stays in for 2-3 days then you have to change the sight.
Did you guys see how much the sensors cost? The sensors for the cgms gold cost $350 for a pack of 10. That comes out to around $12 a day to wear the sensor. Seems like alot of money, but if you do the math and depending on how many times you test a day the sensor is cheaper then finger stick, only if you Test 15 times a day. I know I am not testing near that. That maybe a good price to pay to know your reading every min. of the day.
They will end up with the sensor and infusion set as one.

I was told this week at the Utah Diabetes Center that the release is scheduled for sometime in August. However I can not confirm an actual release date.
Good Luck!!!

[/b] Minimed Is Releasing In August 2006 An Inset That Will Read Your Bg Every Five Minutes. It Is Recommended To Last Only 3 Days However In The Study Those Who Wore It Found That They Could Reset It And Have It Last 6 Days Before Having To Change It. This Will Communiccate To The Minimed Pump. Again I Have No Official Release Date Only That It Is Expected To Be Available In August.
Good Luck!!!
I Also Recommend The Deltec Cozmore System. It Has Been Out Long Enough That You Will Have Fewer Problems. I Would Give Minimed A Few Years To Work Out All The Bugs In This New System And Get It To Where You Can Use The Same Inset To Monitor Both Insulin And Bg Levels.

I recently received the MM 522 insulin pump. (Paradigm Real Time - this is the link to info: http://www.minimed.com/products/insulinpumps/) This is the unit that will display the glucose sensor data on the pump's screen. The sensor units (which were just FDA approved in the last month or so) will ship, to my knowledge, starting in the next couple of weeks. This might depend on your home area. You should contact your local rep from MM if your are interested.
