I am using Humalog, but will be changing to Novolog relatively soon.
Was Humalog, now Novolog as of last Sunday. I'll be back on the Humalog after I get through my first vial of Novolog, to compare notes, etc. (and because I have somehow managed to stock on on extra vials of Humalog).

I use Novolog...it's actually a little strong for me and tends to drop me 3 hr pp but the Humalog just doesn't work at all for me.

Was on Humalog, am currently trying out Apidra (so far, pretty decent), but am still interested in Novolog (at least to try out). Maybe I'm a "nut" and that's what my pump and I are powered by (lol :D), but I think it's cool to try different methods to find which works best (for you, me, everyone, etc...). :1eye:

Truthfully, I think it does....but over the weekend, I kinda splurged and ate a little more (took Carwy to Kansas to celebrate life, with his family, before our journey to Seattle for stem cell). I've only had a few higher numbers throughout the whole time on it, and they were All due to mistakes on my part. Overall, I've been doing pretty well on it. I think it does work more quickly and packs a bit more of a punch, as at the times when I was in the higher range, it took less time to bring me back down. However, I'm still apprehensive to stay on it, cause of the information I found on the insert. Decisions, decisions....lol :whistling
currently i'm using humalog but have some novolog just waiting to be tried.
for those who made the switch from humalog to novolog did you have to adjust your rates and ratios or was it pretty much a unit for unit switch?
dewey ... what did it say about apidra that makes you cautious? its not available here in canada yet anyways, but i was just curious.

Hi Ang,
This came from my post in another thread, "Which Method would you prefer (if you had to choose one)?":
One thing I did Not dig about Apidra (and most newer meds), was that on the insert, it warns about mutagenesis & carcinogenesis (It seems alot of the newer drugs are showing studies of risked increase of varying types of cancer). This is specifically what the insert says:
"Standard 2-year carcinogenicity studies in animals have not been performed. In Sprague Dawley rats, a 12 month repeat dose toxicity study was conducted with insulin glulisene at subcutaneous doses of 2.5, 5, 20 or 50 IU/kg twice daily (doses resulting in exposure 1, 2, 8 and 20 times the average human dose based on body surface comparison).
There was a non-dose dependent higher incidence of mammary gland tumors in female rats administered insulin glulisene compared to untreated controls. The incident of mammary tumors for insulin glulisene and regular human insulin was similar. The relevance of these findings to humans is not known."
On Humalog's insert, it says the following with regards to the same studies:
"Long-term studies in animals have not been performed to evaluate the carcinogenic potential of Humalog. Humalog was not mutagenic in a battery of in vitro and in vivo genetic toxicity assays (bacterial mutation tests, unscheduled DNA synthesis, mouse lymphoma asssay, chromosonal aberration tests, and a micronucleus test)."
It seems alot of the newer meds come with the "I can cause cancer" disclaimer (or warning, possibly due to preservatives used...not really sure what or why). That definitely raises an eyebrow (or two :D) when deciding which meds to go with...Hope this helps.

Dewey - did you notice a difference in the amount of insulin you are taking with the apidra?

Hi YouthInc, and welcome to the forums!
On changes in the Apidra doses, I haven't decreased yet, but, I've been splurging a bit (over the weekend we went to "Celebrate Life" at Carwy's mom's - before his stem cell transplant). I have noticed that it drops higher numbers more quickly. It will probably need to be adjusted over time, as I've noticed a few trends of lower sugars at specific time frames.
Out of curiosity, how do you feel about the Apidra? Have you tried both it and Humalog, and if so, which do you prefer? Have you tried Novolog, too? Just curious about this, as it would be good to explore all possibilities or treatments.

I do not have a problem with it, I have used 1 cartridge of humalog. I have not noticed a big difference. When I was on a pump 5 years ago I used humalog then. WIth the recent return to the pump, I started on the apidra, and I am still trying to get my basals set right. ( see my post on "settling in") anywho, I have noticed and agree with your comment that the highs seem to come down quicker. I also have the impression the people trying novalog have using less insulin. Which makes me wonder, as well, if that isn't something to look at once my rates are settled.
