This is not the first time that I have had a real bad Low blood sugar in the 20s, but last night I had a real bad one. I began to have hallucinations, speaking real loud, delusional, acting as if I were on drugs. I could remember almost everything, but I'm a bit confused as to how I acted. This behavior has happened twice.

I'd be VERY upset if you were dead, Cinnabon. I hate talking on forums to dead people.
Okay, why were we so low?

Well, if that's the case then I was dead 4 yrs. ago. Mine was 17 (lowesst ever for me).
So Duck, I guess you have been talking to several "dead" people. Are you like the boy in "Sixth Sense"? Do you see dead people or just talk to them??? LOL :topic:

Oh my !!! Could it be???? LOL
I had a very intense procedure done on my eye earlier that day. I really do think that had a lot to do with it.
But you know, if I have been to the other side, and from what I have heard, when you return it is on a higher frequency and with more knowledge. I may be able to become a healer of this lil biting tick we all got.... Duck you always make me laugh

OK I have to ask does anyone believe in EVP? Ever since watching the movie White Noise I get chills and really wonder if its true.

Eri's lowest was 19...it took her FOREVER to get to the 30's...
Guess she was just as dead.....weird!!!
She was once walking around at 20 something...like NOTHING was wrong...it was SOOO weird...and I tested her on 2 different meters...
Weirder yet is when she gets to the 60's, that is when she gets WEIRD...strange, huh?(although, she's my child, so that explains the strange!!!)

It can become frightening to have that happen. When it's happened to me, I could swear I was acting "normal" at the time although later on I could see that I wasn't.

Ahh how scarey Cinnabon, glad to hear that everything is ok...and glad to hear you are not dead  (sigh...gotta love doc's sometimes). I've never been that low. The lowest I've been was 38 and I was scared out of my mind. I was at the school library and I didn't know anyone...I had already eaten through all my candy and sugar and was still dropping and I couldn't get up... luckily I was able to stay in control and suspend my pump and came back up. I can't imagine dropping into the 20's.

just think, people pay lots of money for non-legal drugs just to experience this LOL, just think of all the money you save, and it's legal to boot...

Paul, that's too funny.
My all time low was 33 when I got off my plane and to my hotel in London. That musta been one helluva flight...

I've had a few "LO" readings. Last one was so bad i don't know anything until i woke up on the kitchenfloor with an empty glucagon syringe beside me, wondering how the **** i got there, and how i managed to mix the glucagon and inject it  i was home alone, and my cat couldn't have done it :stupid:

Amazing how much activity is shown here from all you dead folks. Kind of a neat trick!
You must all be CGI characters and not real people. I knew it!! This is a computer-generated forum, isn't it? Some developer is practicing writing software to mimic human interaction! And doing a pretty good job, from the looks of things ;)

Low blood sugar levels can lead to coma (hypoglycaemia) and if untreated this may result in death. The annual incidence of hypoglycaemia requiring hospital treatment is about 1 per 10 patients and the mortality of patients under 50 is about 1 in 500.

Cinnabon,
Glad you are ok :o ...I know how scary that can be. When I hit the thirtys (I think that's the lowest I've been) I'm like a walking zombie , so I can imagine how 20 must feel. Please do keep an eye on those numbers, test more frequently, and err on the safe side...if you don't feel right then don't wait, eat right away!
Take care :)

The lowest i recall having is 1.6 (28.8) although i think i've gone much much lower at school because i was at fainting point. Its strange because when between 2.5-4.0 i experience severe symptoms but they occur very lightly in the 1's. Its that or i just cant feel them properly. I remeber a few days ago i was 1.9 and i was trying to read but i couldnt- it was just too overwhelming and i was seeing black spots everywhere. So i guess i have different symptoms for different levels. Im glad your okay though- if i was that low i would absoloutly freak!

I would love to know what is really behind these reactions with a blood sugar reading of 20. Not enough oxygen to the brain? Not enough blood flowing?

The reason behind the Wacky reaction sto going so low
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I *believe* the only fuel the brain uses is glucose. For those of us who have had a bad hypo while asleep (the kind where paramedics or friends are trying to feed you when you wake), you'll notice that your arms/legs/tongue etc don't work--because your brain shuts everything it considers non-essential off, trying to reserve glucose for itself, the hear and lungs (VERY similar to hypothermia, actually).
I have noticed if I take a bolus and for whatever reason am late to eat, I can still think and be relatively normal even when I am really low. BUT, if I go low and stay low for hours, I get reallllllly weird. I have been known to babble, throw things, sit, stand, sit, stand, sit, stand curse, laugh, etc...So in my experience, it's not necessarily getting low, it's getting low and being low for a while that makes me loopy.

Yep its the only way in which the brain obtains fuel- since glucose and oxygen are what energy in the body is made from. I've been having alot of lows lately. Even woke up with one. **** lows! they feels so...yuck

Same here duck - Even when I get into the 30's, I can still function and be coherent, but if I stay 40-50 for a period of time, I start acting really strange.

Yeah I died last night, hit 22, lowest ever. So weird. I went to the gym earlier, came home about an hour or so after the gym, showered got dressed etc... Checked my sugar it was 115, so I took my evening Lantus and headed out with my girlfriend to dinner at a friends house. All of a sudden I'm feeling weird and can't concentrate on driving so I pull over, 22 holy ****!!! So she drives and I start chomping away on glucose. It took like 40 mins to get back up but I felt like ****, couldn't stand if I wasn't in a car, I felt like garbage. I just don't understand though how it got so low. I always take Lantus without eating and then eat at a later time when I take my Novolog. Why the sudden huge drop? It really doesn't make much sense to me. Anyone else ever experience this?

Skilz,
Do you remember doing anything different at the gym? Extra sets? More weight? Anything out of the normal activity could have triggered this. If you retrace you could find to why?

As Cinnabon said, retrace your activities and insulin injections...When was your last injection prior to working out? Also, Lantus (someone correct me if I am wrong) has no peak, but I believe it basically gives 1/24 of whatever you inject an hour...So, if you injected 12 units, the first hour you get .5 units, if you injected 48 units, the first hour you get 2 units...Any amount of insulin can lower your sugars if you had worked out hard enough.
Let me applaud you for NOT driving when you realized you were not well. BAD stories start out "I didn't feel so well but I didn't want to pull over..."

Honestly nothing really different that's why it was so weird. Ever since now my sugar have been real bad, hard to keep down, always going high. Time to tighten up what I eat and get my sugars back in line big time. I think that huge low really screwed up my whole system, is that what usually happens?

I think that huge low really screwed up my whole system, is that what usually happens? A large swing high or low may very well preceed a large swing in the other direction. Sort of cause and effect thing. Then it may take a few swings to dampen them out. Think of a free running pendelum where each swing swings less then the previous swing. That's the simple version because we are not simple in that it's not exactly free running. We eat, take insulin, and are active along with the moons of Saturn which may slow or add to the swings.
skilz123
07-04-2005, 11:05 AM
That's what I thought, except for the Moons of Saturn thing :hahaha:
Well, they are slowly getting better, it just really sucks cause I have been trying to get my overalls a lot better and then I get a huge low when I haven't gone low in months or even a year. And now everything is high again, and I don't want to try to keep things lower at the risk of getting these super lows.
