My trainer will be coming this afternoon to go over with me the changing of my quickset. I want to bring up changing the Basal settings to be able to sleep in. I have been reading up and I see that I will have to set start and stop times at Basal rate 2 and then Basal rate 3. I have a few questions on this. Any pointers on this? How can I make sure it will not interfere or stop my normal Basal rate 1? when the weekend is over, how do I go back to normal basal rate 1? :stupido3:
Cinnabon (and why are they calling you "Mars" around here?),
If you have your basals "dialed in" or set correctly, you shouldn't have to tamper with a "temp rate" in order to sleep in. In theory, if your basals are set correctly, you could be unconscious for days and be fine because your sugars are neither rising or lowering beyong a certain level...In my opinion, you have not been on a pump long enough to figure out completely what your basal rates should be--you've taken a pretty standard 1 unit and hour rate, and now we need to figure out when that rate is good and when we need to raise or lower it to your typical daily basal rate...
Once we figure that out, then we can start figuring out your temp basals (this whole process is obviously not an overnight thing!).
I don't know much about the 715, so I am going to let someone else help with that question.

ok setting basils on a 715.
you can have many basil profile during a single day. they start at midngiht, and end at midnight the next night.
for an example, my basil starts at midnight at 1. 95, and at 3 am goes up to 2.05 to cover the dawn effect, at 8am it goes back to 1.95 , now you can do that with your number in place of mine, and then you can sleep in, what have your bs's been when you wake up????

You really need to get your basals straight and then there will be no need for adjusting i you want to sleep in. Read John Walsh's Pumping Insulin. He describes how to set/test basals (and boluses) very well. I still go back to that book when I feel a tweak is in order.
As midnite said, there are many settings for basals during each 24 hour period. You shouldn't need to change them on the weekends. For example, my regemin with MM715 is as follows:
1) 12:00A 1.3
2) 6:00 A 1.4
3) 10:00A 1.0
4) 11:00P 1.4
These are NOT temp basal rates.
This sets me up each day for 1.4 units/hr from 11 pm to 6 am. Then it's increased to 1.4 units/hr from 6 am to 10 am. Then back down to 1 unit/hr from 10 am to 11 pm.
A temp basal rate is just that. If for some reason (unusual exercise is a good example) you needed to decrease your basal for a few hours, you would set a temp rate accordingly. (Temps basals are actually set as a percentage of the normal rate. So, for example, when I walk a round of golf, I'll set a temp basal at 50% for 4 hours. A temp rate does not permanently affect your "normal" rate(s) and can be cacelled at any time.

Cinnabon Read the section on basil rates. You can have three diffrent types of basil patterns, one for your daily routine, Standard, one for your weekends, Basil pattern A, and one for those odd days, (like unexpected days off, or like me, days when I know I won't be doing physical labor, just paper work. I'm in constuction) Those days are Basil pattern B, of those Patterns you can get several differant basil rates. Sounds complicated at first but I know you'll figure out how to use these to fit your lifstyle, It will take weeks, if not months to get them all staightened out , but when you do, your life will change for the better. Like Duck said, this will not be done overnite. Take it one pattern at a time, and you will get a handle on this. Then it will be second nature. And just like all the veteran pumpers out there, you will be playing with your pump like it's a new vidio game. Like my girlfreind tells me all the time Hey it's not a game boy.

I think getting into all the temp basal issues right now is out of your league. Heck I don't even use a temp basal nor have I ever used my dual/square bolus. It took me about 3 weeks to get my basals just right to where I didn't need correction boluses. Currently I have 4 basal rates and it has been working for me.
