Ok i'm gonna rant a bit LOL

over the past few years, I have gained a little weight, and as a punishment, I seem to have devloped a bit of insuling resistance... I have been on humilog for years now, and have been needing to take more and more... right now my carb to insulin ration is set to 7, and for the most part it works ok.. but, it takes a long time to work, I have tried novolog, and untill I started a very small dose of avandamet, both insulins took thier time in working....

today I started the Apidra, and umm it's time to change the insulin to carb ratio and correcting factors... big time.. my correcting factor right now is set to 25 points to 1 unit.. ok so I start the apidra, and yes I cheated a bit today, love my pasta (im italian what can I say). well my reading when I started was 293, took a correction bolus at my 25 to 1 ratio, and 50 mins later I'm at 93, **** had to take readings on both my precision xtra, and for good measure I used my brothers freestyle flash, with a result of 103. needless to say I am flawed... I guess it's time to re-works all my basil and bolus rates. I have read that this insulin is faster then both humilog and novolog, and could not imagine this, anyone else out there using apidra find it works this much better?????
:adore:

Hi Paul,

I had been using Apidra for several weeks, but switched back to Humalog for a few reasons. While on the Apidra, I noticed that it did lower the blood sugars more rapidly, but I also noticed that my sugars elevated more (and more quickly), too. My endo told me that it does pack more of a "punch" than Humalog (or Novolog). On the flip side, though, I've heard many Novolog users saying how happy they are on their regimens. I'm half-Italian, so I know what you mean about the pasta....I try to stay away from it, but sometimes it's hard to do. :D

Dew,
do you think your sugars went up because Apidra lasted shorter than Novo/Humalog? ie, it's duration is about 2.5-3 hours as opposed to 3.5-5 hours?

Could very well be....I hadn't thought of that. Thanks! I'd still love to give Novolog a try. It seems like so many use and are happy with it. :)

I think the novolog is great...praying that's what they give Eri when she starts the pump next month :)

(I can relate to the pasta thing as well(so can my kids)...I'm 3/4's Sicilian...PLUS, the restaurant is Italian/American(pizzeria)...so that does NOT help the diet any!!!)

Duck and Dew,

I am using Apidra in my Animas 1250. I have not found the duration to be shorter. In fact I know(for me anyways) that it duration is longer that 2.5 hours. When I started on Apidra that was a question I specially asked my Educator. Even when they double checked with the Doc. They Still left my duaration setting at 4 hours.

However, this poses an interesting Question, How would you test the Duration?
