Any frequent flyers here on the board that have advice with regards to using some sort of sharps container to handle medical waste?
My "usual" container is too big for a 2 week adventure, so I am wondering what other travellers have done?
I have all the authenticated medical letters from my physician(s) defining my need of syringes, etc.
I am just wondering how to handle the waste without putting it in a recycled margerine container!
Thnks!

I just bring along a few gallon baggies and keep my used sharps and anything else w/ blood products w/ me in my luggage and dispose of it at home.

usually I just take some sort of small container (glass or hard plastic) which I carry around in hand luggage, then as soon as I am home, it all goes in the sharps bin. Have had no problems doing that.

on vacation and if your really concerned about it. Ask at the pharmacy for a large medicine bottle or use one from home (ex. tylenol bottle I get mine from the ones I buy at the Sam's club so they are plenty big enough) but while I was on vacation. I just had the lancets that had a cap and I put it on the old one and tossed it in the trash. Now that I use syringes for the symilin..I just break the needle off and discard it in the trash.

I typically use a pill container. The see thru kinds are best, especially if labeled "SHARPS" with a black marker.
Our local class recommended using an old liquid detergent bottle for your sharps, but that's too big for travel. I find I use the pill bottle approach on both ends. I seem to have enough of them with the Metformin and Actos prescriptions.
