Hi all,
I've had diabetes for about 10 years. I used to be on glucotrol and glucophage. For the last 2 years I had my sugars diet controlled. No meds. HBA1c's were 5.8 to 6.1. Then I was dx/d with Addison's disease in March and the cortisone raised my blood sugar.
I also am hypothyroid and was dx'd with gastroparesis (paralyzed stomach) two years ago. Having a paralyzed stomach means you digest simple carbs. Fiber, fat and meats all wreak havoc. They make me nauseated like the stomach flu, I swell up like I'm 8 months pregnant, and I throw up the food.
So now I eat more carbs because they are what I can tolerate. They make me more hungry. I hate it (whine).
Now that it's harder to control my carbs because of my situation I'm back on meds. Sugars have been in the 120's and 130's. I'm on actos which doesn't seem to help. But maybe it takes longer than 2 weeks?
The doc wants me to test 6 times a day. I usually don't go 2 hours w/o eating. It's hard to test that much, and my sugars aren't even that high. What's the point of testing so much, and why is one supposed to test/call the doc if you are sick etc? If my sugars go up 10 points because I'm sick what's a doc gonna do? I really have never understood this. Doctors are all in & out these days. I feel I get more info from a drive-thru restaurant.
Thanks for any input.
