Wanted to introduce myself.
As my signature states, I was dx'd in 1990 following a pregnancy that ended in Toxemia and the C-section birth at seven months of a beautiful 2.5lb determined little girl who is now a very bright, beautiful, healthy (thank God), determined 15 year old.
Six months after delivery I started losing 2 lbs. a week, would go off of antibiotics for sinus infections and get the infections back the next day and had small sores that would not heal. This was near the end of the AIDS scare where they were still unsure of a lot of it. I thought I got AIDS from the blood transfusions after the birth (God, why did you give me a baby just to take me away). When the doctor said 'I have bad news. You're diabetic", I responded "Thank God" to which she responded "Does this appeal to you?". "Yes, more than what I thought it was"
Seems the toxemia attacked the pancreas and weakened it.
Highest Ha1c has been 7.6. Most around 7. Fifteen years later, same concerns as everyone else - will I have heart problems, will I have kidney failure. Just got good news from second opthalmologist - "no retinal damage at all - unheard of for someone with diabetes for fifteen years." Hopefully, as healthy in other areas. About five years ago, I had to have an angiogram of my brain (long story - medical CYA) and was told my arteries look normal for my age (is that a good thing? )
Have visited your site a few times after a friend on the Meniere's site told me about you. You seem like a really great group, like my Meniere's buddies.
Yada yada yada. Just wanted to say hi before I started joining in on the posts! You'll be hearing more from me.
