I will be starting a new drug called Byetta. It is a whole new class of drug for the treatment of T2 diabetes. It just got FDA approval in April.

Is anyone else using this yet and if so how has it been working.

My DEs are vary excited about me going on this as I am there first patient to be on it. They told me that they have heard good things about it.

If you are interesting here is there wewbsite,

Wonder why they don't approve it as a standalone treatment? :questionm

Maybe in another year or two they will approve it for use with other oral meds. :slug:

I must admit I didn't spend much time studying all the links on the site but the prescribing document says that it is injected subcutaneously.

If it's a drug that requires injection I wonder what the advantages are over reducing the oral medications to a minimum and just injecting insulin :turtle:

If it's a drug that requires injection I wonder what the advantages are over reducing the oral medications to a minimum and just injecting insulin :turtle: Like 'Symlin', they are both of the same family, it delays digestion, decreases post meal glucose spikes, promotes satiety, reduces food intake by making one feel full sooner (weight loss), and aids the pancrease in outputing appropiate amounts of insulin in a more timely manner, a more normal response to glucose levels. At least that's my take on it.

Well, I took my first dose tonight and my bgl one hour after meal was 108. that is the lowest reading I have had in a month.

It kinda kicked my butt a little, due to nausea and drossiness. But the side effects are supposed to wear off in about two weeks.

I was only nauseated for the first time I increased the dose..each time..so that was a total of 4 times but it wasn't anything that stopped me from going about my daily activities. More of a....hmmmm what did I eat feeling!!!! and it lasted until I took my next dose and ate my meal.
