Hi all, I found your site today and can only ask myself....where have I been?
My question is about the legalities in the US about sharing excess supplies. My father in law (rest his soul after 35+ yrs. T1, but less than a year on the pump) would receive packages of what I call excess supplies.
I would forward my excess supplies of test strips, alcohol swabs...the ever abundant lancets, and unopened boxes of syringes. I had insurance coverage, and he was stuck w/Medicare, so I felt obliged to help him on the supply issue.
However, once he made the switch to the pump....I could no longer help in that way.
Am I somehow legally responsible for providing his supplies during his injection days....ie: prior to his pump days?
BTW: I'd love to talk w/pump users as he died less than a year after making the switch. SEPSIS, a nasty way to go!

I'm aware of some organizations you can give the extra supplies to, but I'll have to try to find the list. It's a very kind offer and would be appreciated very much.

It is a real shame he had to live 35 years with T1 and only 1 year on a pump. The pump is the greatest thing that could have happened to him regarding this disease. I am sorry for your loss.
Welcome aboard! :hello:

Thanks, to you both. Yes, I have found local 'clinics' that could use my donations. And more importantly, It hurts that he thought he found his way out of diabetes, only to die from it.

Any offers of those wanting excess supplies would be appreciated.
Not trying to bash the pump....its done wonders for so many....just I think my Dad Lad took it to the extreme....if that can be done.

I do have 2 org's. that ADA referred me to here.... (sad considering the Austin area) but I welcome any others, especially those w/o insurance coverage.....anything I offer is excess, and unopened! And meant to help those w/o insurance coverage.

Yeah, that's what I thought. He wasn't a stupid man by any means, but I question his judgement/activity after becoming a pump person.

I'd appreciate that list, if you can. The one's I've called in my area seem to be a bit 'put out' by the thought. Any links you could provide would be wonderful!

There are a few here that do not have insurance and could use excess supplies. I hope they contact you through the PM system. Welcome to the forums by the way. I donate excess supplies as well. I figure that I can get it through insurance and it automatically comes to me and if I don't need them or afraid the expiration date may go out before I could possibly use it I make a post like you did and wait for a response so I can ship it out.

Okay, I've found a few that might be able to use excess supplies:

The only thing about the angel network is I haven't seen it in operation for quite a while, so I don't know what the future holds with it.
