The MDI in this article is not what I would call an ideal MDI program for a Type 1 diabetic. She describes a three shot regiment. With this type therapy you would be tied to a clock. A 4 to 5 shot MDI regiment with Lantus(or similar insulin) as basal and Rapid acting insulin at meals would allow much more flexibility. I am very surprised an article from 2005 about "intensive insulin therapy" did not include this method.
