View Full Version : Morning = More Insulin Resistance?

When I was pregnant and had gestational diabetes, I was told that I couldn't have any milk or fruit until after 12:00pm. I also found that my tolerance for carbs was far less in the morning. My BS numbers would typically be higher than for an identical meal eaten later in the day.

Was this just because I was pregnant, or should I be controlling my morning fruit/milk/carb intake now (T2)? I can't tell if my numbers are higher (2 hr post breakfast) b/c I tend to eat more food (and therefore carbs) at breakfast, or if there is some other phenomena going on here.

A lot of us pumpers have breakfast ratios that are different from dinner/lunch ratios (carb to insulin ratios, that is)...So it wouldn't be unheard of if you required more "help" at breakfast.

My endo told me that many people are more insulin-resistant in the morning, thus explaining why I need 35 ml to counteract a 110-carb meal; the 35 would normally be enough to combat 350 carbs!
