well, it's confession time...and a big question..

lunch +2 hours and my blood sugar level is the highest in weeks..170...
even with meds...

i'm being paid back for my over indulgence yesterday, i guess.

i'm wondering, could this level (after a morning low of 115) be the result
of a slow metabolism?

and i've been having a 'sensation' not a real 'pain' in my upper right
abdomen...where the gall bladder, liver and pancreas is located...it's mostly gone now but i have this 'feeling' for about an hour ... gall stones? last time the doctor did a scan, he said that my 'stones' were like sand, not bigger. i know that most people have gall stones and they don't cause problems...
i'm not worried about it but interested that i had a sensation in that region.

guess i'd better tighten up and get back on track...i slacked off a bit yesterday...

Paying the Piper Later is what I call it. About a couple of years after dx I tried a glazed donut and thought a couple of hours later 'Gee that did not bother me." Two days later my bg's soared and three days I felt like a bloated like a toad. Then a week later I had put on five pounds. Never will I be tempted again.

Mild to moderate internal torso pain rarely shows up where the cause is. When I had a liver biopsy done, which is taken between like the third and fourth rib from the bottom towards the back of my right side. They told me my shoulder would probably hurt. Thought yea right. Then I had this sharp pain in the middle of the sternum for a short time then my shoulder started hurting and kept building long after the first one quit. The doctor said there are no pain nerves inside the torso. They are all routed around the membrane that holds all of the organs and that the nerves route differently on everyone. The shoulder pain however is the most common place it shows up. When I had my gall bladder removed besides the cuts for the instruments I had the same pain in the sternem and shoulder and those cuts were all in front. The pain from the pancreatitis the gall bladder caused was right in the middle of my chest and thoughts of having a heart attack crossed my mind.

I had a gallbladder attack one time and hope to never have anything like that again. It was way worse than delivering a baby!! :help: I had pain just below the sternum where the ribs come together. It started out as a dull pain and thought it was indigestion so I took some pepsid and went to bed. Well a few hours later it was radiating to my back and hurt so bad I told my husband if he didn't get me to the hospial fast that I wasn't going to make it!
They took me as soon as I walked in the ER door and put an IV in and gave me pain med. They did and ultrasound and said it was a hot gallbladder. Now when I think it may be starting up again I take a few ibuprophen along with a couple of pepsid and it doesn't get too bad.

Harold...am i understanding this correctly...your gall bladder CAUSED pancreatitus? could that be what's going on with some of us? can the stones in the gall bladder cause your B/G levels to jump? to LOOK like diabetes?
those three organs work so closely together, maybe one misfunctioning does cause the other to break down as well?

i've had gall bladder problems on and off for more than 10 years...is there
any connection to the diabetes?

just checked my b/g...it's going down - 159 now. will have dinner in about an hour and will check it two hours later as well. and i'm really going to cut back and no more slips...

OUCH Nancy, sorry you have had to go through that. Whatever was buggin' me, it's gone now... years ago when i had much more severe pain, i was able to find a good doctor who didn't recommend surgery right off the bat...he said to control it with diet. no coffee, black tea, chocolate and light on the oil and fats...the stones dissolved in time and most of the problems went with them...

i'm still curious to know if gall bladder problems can affect the pancrease and eventually lead to diabetes.

i'll keep on searching for answers.

yes it does.i have been there and done that.when the stones migrate to some of the ducts it will cause pancreatitus.lots of great pain where the ribs meet.upset stomach and gas.

There is a difference between pancreatitis and pancreatitus. My gall bladder had stones embeded in the walls which had ulcerated through the wall and was leaking bile and infection to the pancrease and liver. My pancrease was very inflamed from it.
Doubt the stones in the gall bladder in themselves cause bgs to jump or make it LOOK so. However once the gall bladder becomes full of stones and no longer acts as a reservior for bile it will affect how well you can digest fats and affects digestion in general. There may be a connection between a disruption in the digestive metabolism over many years and in the hormones that control it. Removing the gall bladder will not lower your bgs and some people still have problems digesting fats after having it removed. The best thing you can do to avoid gall bladder attacks is to eat regular, no fasting, and eat low fat meals versus high fat meals. I can digest normal fats from milk, meats, legumes, and veggies in reasonable quantities, but too much trans fats and it feels like a gall bladder attack. Trans fats throw my whole system out of whack and do make my bg's rise.
